A total entry of 605 store and breeding cattle were on offer with a good company of buyers in attendance with quality cattle selling to a similar trade but some of the longer-term cattle were more difficult to place.
Breeding Section
In the breeding section, there were two herd dispersals with a Limousin Herd from Mr Tony Millward of Dilhorne, selling up to £1820 for a Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot with other similar outfits at £1800, £1790, £1780 (twice) from the same vendor.
A pure bred Limousin stock bull from Mr Tony Millward sold for £1590.
The herd dispersal on behalf of Messrs Griffin of Osmaston met with a good enquiry with in-calf Shorthorn cows selling up to £1445 with others at £1380, £1300, £1190 and £1150 (twice). Calves from the same outfit sold up to £690 for a pedigree heifer calf at 7 months of age.
A Hereford cow with a Hereford heifer calf at foot from Messrs Brandrick of Burton on Trent exchanged hands for £1120 with breeding heifers from Messrs Badham of Abbots Bromley selling up to £1200.
The pedigree stock bull being 55 months of age from the same vendors exchanged hands for £2,180, and a Hereford 25 month old pedigree bull from E S Bennison of Campstall met good competition and exchanged hands for £1540 with a 12 month old Limousin pure bred bull from Tony Sayer of Hilderstone also selling for £1540.
Young Bulls
Young bulls of which there was 39, sold up to £805 for a pair of 16 month old Limousin from D J Latchford of Burton on Trent with a pair of 16 month old Angus from Messrs White of Sheffield at £680 and 12 month old Limousin bulls from D J Latchford at £700.
Overall average achieved for bulls was £470 which included some small young bulls.
Steers
There were 281 steers on offer with a top price paid being £1435 for a 28 month old British Blue steer from M Snape of Endon with the same vendor selling Simmental steers at 26 months of age up to £1350, £1345 and £1330. A Hereford steer at 30 months of age from Roy Sant of Endon selling at £1275, Brian and Mary Hudson of Ipstones sold good shaped British Blue steers at 23 months of age up to £1230 with another similar aged steer at £1150 and Friesians at 23 months of age from the same vendor at £855.
A bunch of 3, 20 month old Limousin steers from David Curtis and Family of Basford sold well up to £1265 and British Blue steers from Messrs Wright of Hartington at 19 months of age topped at £1080 with a pair of 17 month old Charolais steers from Ross Worthington of Edale at £1230.
A Limousin steer from Messrs Seager of Plumley, Knutsford at 24 months of age realised £1155. Angus steers from Tom Campbell of Cheadle at 19 months of age exchanged hands up to £1140. A Simmental steer from Geoff Hallam of Warslow at 17 months of age sold for £1210.
Younger steers achieved up to £910 for a 9 month old Charolais steer from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks with a 9 month old Limousin steer from Amy Seabridge of Stone selling particularly well for £970. A 10 month old Limousin steer from Ian Woodward at £815, a 6 month old Limousin steer from Mr John Davies of Biddulph Moor at £850.
Overall average for steers was £828.77
Heifers
There were 224 heifers on offer with a top price being £1240 for a 34 month old Friesian X heifer from T & A Johnson of Bosley, A Charolais heifer at 19 months of age from Ross Worthington sold for £1115,
with Limousin heifers from Brian and Mary Hudson of Ipstones at 22 months of age up to £1085 with a British Blue heifer from the same vendors at 23 months of age at £1075.
22 month old British Blue heifers from David Curtis and Family at £1145 and a 15 month old Charolais heifer from the same vendor at £1030. A bunch of 3, 22 month old British Blue heifers from Peter Mitchell at £1045. J & D Norbury of Ashley sold a bunch of 3 Angus heifers at 25 months of age for £1060 with Hereford heifers from Albert Chaddock at 28 months of age up to £1015
Overall average for heifers was £704.11.
