An entry of 564 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer with plenty of trade in all categories.
Breeding Section
There was a shortage of breeding cattle with no quality lots on offer seeing a top price of £1160 for a Shorthorn heifer with a young Shorthorn heifer calf at foot from Messrs Spendlove of Belper with a Belted Galloway aged cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Roy Critchlow of Flash exchanging hands for £880. 2 In calf Angus heifers from Messrs Spendlove exchanged hands for £780 and £770.
Just one stock bull being a 29 month old Pedigree well bred Simmental bull from Messrs Goddard of Glossop was bid for keenly and sold for £2050.
Young Bulls
There were 20 young bulls topping at £1035, for an 18 month old Simmental from Messrs Matkin & Sons of Belper with a 13 month old Shorthorn from J Tavernor of Farley at £900 and 7 month old Limousins from Paul Brook of Mayfield up to £865.
Overall average for young bulls was £595.
Steers
There were 322 steers on offer with some good quality cattle selling up to £1785 for a pair of British Blues from Ian Hollis of Burton on Trent with the same vendor selling some more 20 month old British Blue Steers for £1715, £1690 and £1540.
Other British Blue steers at 26 months of age from Peter Naden sold up to £1435 with a pair of Angus 23 month old steers from Arthur Swinson of Gawsworth at £1530 with a single 27 month old Angus from Messrs Brunt of Wincle at £1475 and a pair of 22 month old Angus from Messrs Shann of Sheen at £1335.
Welsh Black steers at 26 months of age from Peter Naden sold for £1525 with Charolais up to £1520 for a 22 month old Charolais from Arthur Swinson with a pair of 22 month old Charolais from Messrs Shann at £1300 and 19 month old Herefords topping at £1485 for a bunch of 3 from Arthur Swinson with another pair from the same vendor at similar age at £1480.
Limousin steers at 17 months of age from Arthur Swinson sold up to £1450 with another 16 month old Limousin from the same vendor at £1415 and a 22 month old Limousin from Messrs Potts of Astbury at £1375.
South Devon steers from Keith and Alison Wilton of Fairfield were particularly well sold with a top price of £1210 for 12 month old cattle with others at £1200 for another bunch of 4, 12 month old from the same vendor and others at £1130 and £1120.
Holstein steers topped at £1100 for 26 month old cattle from Messrs Brunt of Wincle with 11 month old Limousins at £1070 from Robert Flower and 11 month old British Blues from E Morley & Sons of Derby at £1060.
Overall average achieved for steers was £891.38.
Heifers
There were 213 heifers on offer with the top price being £1355 for a pair of British Blue 25 month old heifers from Beryl Kirkham of Leek with 3, 26 month old British Blue heifers from P J Stevens of Mottram at £1325 with the same vendor selling another pair of 27 month old British Blues for £1260. 19 month old British Blue from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks was well sold at £1225 with Stabiliser heifers at 25 months of age from Alan Jackson of Gawsworth up to £1310 with Angus at 21 months of age up to £1295 from Messrs Brunt with another from Peter Naden of Cheddleton at 26 months of age at £1270 and 6, 31 month old Angus heifers from Cynthia Carnwell of Kingsley Moor at £1145.
A 25 month old pair of Limousin heifers from Messrs Brunt of Wincle sold for £1280 with a 17 month old heifer from Peter Hulse of Consall at £1185.
Charolais heifers from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks at 21 months of age topped at £1080 with Longhorn heifers from Ken Grocott of Leigh at 19 months of age at £1015 with Hereford heifers at 24 months of age up to £975 from Steve Machin of Stanley.
Younger cattle sold up to £1030 for a bunch of 6, 14 month old British Blue heifers from Messrs Potts of Astbury with a single 10 month old British Blue heifer from E Morley & Sons of Derby at £870 and a bunch of 3, 12 month old British Blue heifers from the same vendor also selling for £870.
Overall average achieved was £751.30
