Store Cattle Sale Report 20th December

A smaller entry than of late for the last sale of 2025 with 206 store and breeding cattle on offer but there were plenty of buyers in attendance seeing spirited bidding and a strong trade.

Breeding Section

A small entry in the breeding section with a Hereford cow with a Hereford steer calf achieved £2280 for SJ Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave.

A Pedigree Shorthorn cow, scanned in-calf to Beef Shorthorn bull, achieved £1780 for E Trueman of Quarnford with a Simmental cow, in-calf to Aberdeen Angus bull, achieved £1650 for DJ Badham of Rugeley.

Young Bulls

Only a handful of young bulls on offer, topping at £1150 for a British Blue for D J Badham of Rugeley with Limousin selling to £910 for the same vendor and a bunch of four Aberdeen Angus achieving £760 for E Smith of Rushton Spencer.

Steers

92 steers were on offer, topping at £2300 for an Aberdeen Angus at 26 months old for JR & S Bloor of Crewe, a 20-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £1865 for The Red Lion Inn Ltd of Stone and a pair at 21 months of age achieved £1810 for C Nash of Stone.

27-month-old Hereford steers sold to £2140 for JR & S Bloor of Crewe, a single 20-month-old Hereford sold to £1790 for The Red Lion Inn Ltd of Stone and a 30-month-old Hereford sold to £1780 for Roy Sant of Endon.

Charolais steers at 20 months old sold to £1990 for JE Carr of Cheddleton.

British Blue steers at 21 months old achieved £1960 for JE Carr of Cheddleton and a single 18-month-old British Blue achieved £1880 from Birchwood Park Farms of Calton.

A pair of 29-month-old Simmental steers sold to £1880 for R Watson of Frodsham and a single 18-month-old Simmental achieved £1810 from The Red Lion Inn Ltd of Stone.

Shorthorn steers at 21 months old sold for £1850 for The Red Lion Inn Ltd of Stone with Saler steers at 22 months old achieving £1785.

In the younger cattle, a 12-month-old British Blue achieved £1570 for JJ & WE Bower of Hyde and a 13-month-old British Blue sold to £1550 for KW & AM Minshull of Bosley.

9-month-old Simmental sold well to achieve £1310 for J W Bennison of Ipstones and a trio of 7–8-month-old Simmental sold to £1290 for NM Hammersley of Stafford.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1381.52, up £80 on a fortnight ago.

Heifers

104 heifers were on offer with a trio of Aberdeen Angus at 25 months of age topping them at £2090 for JR & S Bloor of Crewe with a 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus achieving £1660 for JE Carr of Cheddleton.

A single British Blue heifer at 21 months old sold to £1865 for GW Myatt & Partners of Endon with a trio of British Blue Heifers at 23 months old selling to £1705 for D & D Gould of Waterhouses and a single British Blue at 22 months achieved £1690 for JE Carr of Cheddleton.

A single 21-month-old Charolais heifer achieved £1700 for JE Carr of Cheddleton.

A trio of Hereford Heifers at 30 months old sold to £1580 for Roy Sant of Endon, a 17-month-old Holstien sold to £1570 for WE Turnock & Sons of Onecote with a pair of 17-month-old Limousin achieving £1510 for Summerclose Farm of Rainow.

Younger cattle sold well with a bunch of four Charolais at 11 months old achieving £1250 for Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones who also had another bunch of four at 11 months old selling to £1200.

The overall average for heifers was a very pleasing £1146.80.
