Store Cattle Sale Report 20th July

327 Store & Breeding Cattle were on offer, a very firm trade throughout for all types of cattle with steers producing a remarkable average of £1158/ head and heifers £1050/ head.

Breeding Section
There was a shortage of cows with calves at foot with the top price being £1685, paid for a Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Mr Brook of Mayfield, with four outfits from Kidd Farmers of Longnor selling up to £1530 for a British Blue cow with a Charolais heifer calf at foot and £1510 for a British Blue cow with a Charolais male calf at foot.

There were several Limousin cows, having run with the bull, on offer from Mr Brook of Mayfield which sold up to £1545, £1480 and £1450.

Stock Bulls
There was one breeding bull on offer, being a good quality pedigree Limousin bull which was 42 months old, from Paul Brooks of Mayfield, which was bid for keenly and exchanged hands for £2900.

Young Bulls
There was a small entry of young bulls with a 17-month-old Simmental from Tony Freeman of Rugeley achieving £1180, a 10-month-old British Blue from Peter Lawley of Bagnall at £965 and a pair of 17-month-old Hereford bulls from Keyholders Farming of Ipstones which sold for £780.

Steers
There were 163 steers on offer with a remarkable trade throughout, with an excellent company of buyers seeing Limousin steers topping at £1760, at 25 months old, from Jason Jervis of Cheadle with another pair from the same home, at similar age, at £1705.

A 14-month-old Limousin from John Beech of Cellarhead, sold well at £1480, with a pair of 19-month-old Limousin from Colin Lymer of Cheddleton at £1440.

Hereford steers at 23 months old, from Ian Wilson and Family of Hollington, sold up to £1745 with a pair from T E H Bold & Sons of Cotton at 30 months old realising £1500 and another 25-month-old Hereford at £1425 from the same owner.

Simmental steers from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington, at 25 months, sold up to £1640 with another pair of 25-month-old Simmentals at £1600 and a bunch of three similar aged, from the same vendor, at £1595.

British Blue steers from Ian Wilson & Family of Hollington, at 24 months old, sold up to £1600 with another single 23-month-old British Blue steer at £1510.

Aberdeen Angus steers from DH Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel, at 23 months old, sold up to £1525 with another pair from Adam Shaw of Ashbourne at, 20 months old, realising £1500 and a single, from PJ Simpson of Winkhill, at 18 months, achieving £1425.

Shorthorn steers from Peter Southwell of Uttoxeter, at 25 months old, achieved £1440, with Charolais at 15 months of age from C & EJ Whilock of Werrington at £1190 and a Friesian at 26 months of age from Messrs Shuker of Bosley at £1180.

Belted Galloway steers from RJ Fernyhough of Abbots Bromley, at 20 months of age, sold up to £1110 and Holstein steers at 22 months of age from Red Lion Farms of Dayhills at £1075.
Younger Cattle achieved up to £1120 for a 12-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer from Raymond Turner of Rownall with a pair of 13-month-old Limousin, from Andrew Carr and Family of Waterfall, at £1080.

The average for steers was £1158.86.

Heifers
There were 122 heifers on offer topping at £1600, for a 24-month-old Limousin, from Jason Jervis with another pair of 25-month-old Limousin, from Colin Lymer of Cheddleton, at £1320.

British Blue heifers, at 22 months of age, from Steve Machin of Stanley, achieved £1460 and another pair £1440 from the same owner with Aberdeen Angus heifers, from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel, at 24 months of age realising £1400.

Saler heifers from Ipstones, at 25 months of age, realised £1390, with Swedish Red heifers from P Hulse of Consall, at 23 months of age, at £1280 and a Bazadaise heifer, from The Red Lion Farms of Dayhills, at 22 months of age, realised £1190.

Shorthorn heifers at 24 months old, from Peter Southwell, exchanged hands for £1140, with Holstein heifers from the Red Lion Inn Farms of Dayhills at £1110.

Younger cattle sold up to £1010 for a 14-month-old Aberdeen Angus for Messrs Simcock of Pott Shrigley with a 14 month old Limousin, from Andrew Carr and Family of Waterfall, at £920.

Overall average achieved for Heifers was £1050.
