Store Cattle Sale Report 21st June

There was a total of 467 Store and Breeding Cattle available on Saturday with a good company of buyers present.

Breeding Section

Topping the breeding section was a Hereford cow with a Hereford heifer calf from Bagnall Grange Farm, topping at £1970. A Simmental cow with an Aberdeen Angus bull calf sold to £1820 for A A Wheeldon of Glossop.

Two Aberdeen Angus cows with Aberdeen Angus heifer calves at foot sold to £1800 and £1590 for J E Critchlow of Hollinsclough.

Stock Bulls

A Simmental stock bull at 6 years old sold to £2130 for A Webster of Southam, a Hereford bull at 22 months of age sold to £2060 for J E Reynolds of Loughborough and an Aberdeen Angus bull at 25 months of age sold to £1620 for J E Critchlow of Hollinsclough.

Young Bulls

An Aberdeen Angus bull at 8 months old topped the young bull section at £1290 for P J Simpson of Winkhill. An Aberdeen Angus bull at 12 months old sold to £990 for D R Heatley & Son of Dilhorne with another at 13 months old achieving £950 for R J Heatley & S L Bourne of Dilhorne.

Steers

There were 217 steers on offer with a top price of £2560 being achieved for a 26-month-old Hereford from H M Deville & Son of Doveridge who had another pair at 26 months of age achieving £2290. A bunch of three Hereford steers at 22 months of age achieved £1920 for S Frith of Thorpe.

A pair of Limousin steers at 28 months old topped at £2290 for C A Lymer of Cheddleton with a 24-month-old Limousin selling to £2240 for J E Carr of Cheddleton, who also achieved £2040 for a Limousin at 23 months of age.

A pair of Aberdeen Angus sold for £2020 at 21 months old for J Greatbach of Wetley Rocks with a pair at 19 months old for D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel also achieving £2020. A pair of Aberdeen Angus at 25 months old sold to £2010 for PJ, EM & JP Simcock of Pott Shrigley.

British Blue steers sold to £2010 for a pair at 20 months of age for S Frith of Thorpe with a 24-month-old British Blue selling to £2000 for Lathams of Weston on Trent.

Two Welsh Black steers at 23 months of age achieved £1970 for J Greatbach of Wetley Rocks.

A Simmental at 23 months of age sold to £1830 for S Frith of Thorpe with a bunch of three Friesians at 25 months of age selling up to £1810 for C A Day & Sons of Upper Hulme who sold another Friesian at 26 months old to £1800.

In the younger cattle, a bunch of three British Blue steers at 13 months old sold to £1570 for J B Rowlinson & Son of Gawsworth and a bunch of four Aberdeen Angus sold to £1510 for PJ, EM & JP Simcock of Pott Shrigley.

P E Ward of Callow had a 12-month-old Limousin to £1500 and FW & JF Brookes of Crakemarsh had a pair of 12-month-old Hereford steers to £1495 and a bunch of three 12-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers to £1480.

The overall average for steers was up on the week at £1346.64.

Heifers

Limousins topped the heifers with a pair at 24 months of age from J Jervis Partnership of Cheadle achieving £2180 and another pair at 24 months of age sold to £2170 for the same vendor. C A Lymer of Cheddleton sold a bunch of three at 20 months old for £2130 and a 24-month-old Limousin from JE Carr of Cheddleton achieved £1880.

A Pair of Aberdeen Angus at 22 months old sold to £1990 for J Greatbach of Wetley Rocks, a 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £1700 for Lathams of Weston on Trent and a pair at 20 months old sold to £1690 for JC & ME Moss of Meerbrook.

A South Devon heifer at 26 months of age sold to £1980 for FW & JF Brookes of Crakemarsh.

British Blue heifers at 23 months old sold to £1940 for J E Carr of Cheddleton with a pair at 23 months selling to £1910 for Lathams of Weston on Trent.

S Frith of Thorpe sold a pair of Charolais heifers at 25 months old to £1910. A Hereford heifer, also from S Frith topped at £1690 at 22 months of age.

A bunch of four Shorthorn heifers at 23 months of age sold to £1670 for G Oates of Wilmslow.

Younger cattle sold to £1640 for a 13-month-old Limousin from D Tomlinson of Wormhill, a pair of 14-month-old Blondes sold to £1560 for T C James of Eccleshall and a 13-month-old Shorthorn sold to £1470 for J & R Potts of Prestbury.

The overall average for Heifers was £1105.61.
