Store Cattle Sale Report 7th December

A total entry of 426 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer with trade again very similar and some excellent prices achieved.

Breeding Section
Top price for cows with calves at foot was £1300 for a Dairy Shorthorn heifer with a young British Blue heifer calf at foot from Mr Gregory of Drointon.

In-Calf Charolais heifers, from S Kidd Farmers of Longnor, met with good interest, selling up to £1570 with others at £1510 and £1410.

In-Calf Hereford heifers, from Messrs Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave, achieved up to £1125.

A special entry of Cows with Calves at Foot, from Tixall Farming, sold up to £1185 for a Hereford heifer with a young Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot and £1145 for a Limousin cow with a young Aberdeen Angus bull calf at foot.

Young Bulls
There was a small entry with a 20-month-old British Blue bull, from Messrs Mitchell & Son of Chelford, at £1035 with 9-month-old Limousin bulls, from FW Kirkham of King Sterndale, selling well for £870 and young Aberdeen Angus bulls, from Valley View Farm, Mercaston, up to £505.

Steers
There were 178 steers on offer, selling to a top price of £1980 for a 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus from Jason Jervis of Cheadle, with other Aberdeen Angus up to £1495, for a bunch of three at 18 months old, from A G Mellor of Sutton, and £1490 for a 26-month-old Aberdeen Angus steer, from CA Davenport of Leekbrook.

Simmental steers, from P J Stephens of Mottram St Andrews, at 21 months old, were well sold at £1680 with another 21-month-old Simmental, from the same farmer, at £1530 and a 26-month-old Simmental, from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington, at £1500.

Hereford steers, from JS Hine of Biddulph Park, at 18 months of age, sold up to £1640, £1500 for a 24-month-old Hereford, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor, and £1495 for Darren Gould at Waterhouses at 21 months old.

Charolais steers, from Martin Lancaster of Congleton, at 15 months old, were well sold at £1490 with Limousin steers, from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington, at 22 months old, up to £1465 and £1460 for a 17-month-old from EJ Morris & Son of Alsager.

Longhorn steers, from Reg Potter and Family of Yeaveley, were well sold for £1385 at 19 months of age and £1365 at 23 months of age.

Younger steers included £1315 for a 15-month-old Hereford for Messrs Bower of Hyde, with a pair of 15-month-old British Blue steers, from Mark Jervis of Oakamoor achieving £1205 and a bunch of seven 15-month-old Simmentals, from JB Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth at £1145.

An 11-month-old British Blue steer, from S B Mellor & Son of Waterhouses, achieved £1085 with another 10-month-old Limousin steer, from the same farmer, at £1060.

Overall average achieved for Steers was £981.99.

Heifers
There were 175 heifers on offer with P J Stephens of Mottram St Andrews topping the section at £1665 for a 23-month-old Simmental, with a 25-month-old Simmental, from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington, at £1500 and a 26-month-old Simmental, from the same farmer, at £1405.

Limousin heifers, from the Williamson Brothers of Wetley Rocks, at 22 months old, sold up to £1565 with £1470 being paid for a pair of 21-month-old Limousin heifers, from Richard Gould and Family of Longnor.

Aberdeen Angus heifers, from H Lomas & Son of Gawsworth, at 27 months old, sold up to £1525 with a single 21-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor, at £1490 and a 26-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifer, from D N Ball of Lask Edge, at £1325.

Hereford heifers, from Ian Barks, at 24 months old, sold up to £1490 with a 22-month-old Hereford heifer, from Richard Gould of Longnor, at £1400.

A Charolais heifer, from Ian Barks of Blackshaw Moor, at 22 months old, sold for £1370 with a 24-month-old Charolais, from Richard Gould, at £1335 and a 27-month-old Charolais, from Pilkington Farms of Hartington, at £1325.

British Blue heifers, from Darren Gould of Waterhouses, at 23 months old, sold up to £1410 and a 27-month-old British Blue heifer, from Holmes Bros of Loscoe, sold up to £1300 with others at 22 months old, from Darren Gould of Waterhouses, at £1295.

Younger cattle topped at £1180 for a 15-month-old British Blue heifer, from Messrs Bower of Hyde, with a bunch of six 15-month-old Simmental heifers, from JB Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth, at £1015.

Overall average achieved for Heifers was £919.11
