Store Sheep Report 28th November

A total entry of 4,160 store lambs and breeding sheep were on offer with the majority being store lambs which were even dearer that a fortnight ago.

Store Lambs

There was 3,991 store lambs on offer being principally Texels and Suffolks with the top price being £98 paid for Texel ewe lambs from C & D Allen & Sons of Thorpe with other Texel ewe lambs from the same farmers at £97, £90, £89 & £87.

Other Texel x lambs from W E Turnock & Sons of Onecote sold up to £94.50 with £92 and £90 being paid for 2 pens from Messrs Briand of Bagnall, £88 from Geoff Hallam of Warslow, £87.20 from K B Hazlehurst of Dove Holes with several other pens around £84 to £87 a piece.
Suffolk x ewe lambs from Messrs RS & EJ Longden & Sons of Chinley sold up to £94 with a single Suffolk from Ross Worthington at £90 and another single Suffolk from RS & EJ Longden & Sons of Chinley at £88. A pen of Suffolks from P & M Hayward & Sons of Chapel en le Frith sold up to £86.80 with a pen from Simon Baskerville of Fair Oak at £85 and another pen from Ross Worthington of Edale at £85 also. Messrs Sadler from Great Wryley, Cannock sold up to £82.
Average for Suffolk lambs was a very pleasing £80.64.
Oxford lambs from Reg Philips & Family of Ladmanlow topped at £83 with Charollais mixed lambs from Vern Whilock of Foxt at £85.50 and £85 from Clive Grindey of Adlington. Lleyn store lambs from MG & C Davenport of Leekbrook sold up to £85 and £83 from Clive Grindey of Adlington with Dorset mixed ewe lambs from RS & EJ Longden & Sons of Chinley at £82.
Aberfield lambs from Robert Belfield & Family of Upper Hulme sold up to £85 with Beltex lambs up to £77 from M & D Barber of Blore and Mule wethers being particularly well sold selling up to £79.50 from A Evans of Burton on Trent, £75.50 from Mycock & Bright of Buxton and £73 from the same vendor with others at £70.50 from A Evans of Burton on Trent.
The average for Mule wether lambs was a very pleasing £67.42.
Cheviot mixed lambs from A Evans of Burton on Trent sold up to £80.50 with Gritstones Wethers at £79 from Andrew Henshaw & Family of Buxton, £74.50 from David Torr of Ilam and Jacobs up to £68 from Malcolm Williams of Parwich.

Beulah x store lambs were particularly well sold up to £65.50 from John Elliott of Sheffield with Masham wethers up to £62 from David Naylor of Glossop and Ryelands from Mr S M Shenton of Cauldon at £90.50.
Swale wether lambs from Mycock & Bright sold up to £60 with Easycare wethers from J Hulmes of Onecote at £74.
The overall average for store lambs was a very pleasing £75.66.

Breeding Ewe Lambs

There were 103 breeding ewe lambs on offer with a top price of £90 from Steve Wright of Ipstones for Mules with other Mules from Mark Jones of Montgomery up to £77 (twice) with Texels topping at £82 from FH White of Shottle and Jacob ewe lambs from Alan Edgecox of Onecote at £76 with Swales up to £68.
Breeding ewes of mixed quality mainly grazing and feeding types selling up to £60 to produce an average of £40.44.
