Holstein cows topped the market today at 268p/kg, weighing 480kg to gross £1286.40 from A & JE Goldstraw of Waterhouses.

A 740kg Limousin from T E H Bold & Sons of Cotton sold to 259p/kg to gross £1916.60.

Friesians topped at 244p/kg weighing 705kg to gross £1720.20 for RG & AS Williamson of Wetley Rocks.

Top gross price of the day went to Keyholders Farming of Ipstones Edge for a 890kg Hereford cow which sold to 238p/kg to gross £2118.20.

A 765kg British Blue bull sold to 379p/kg to gross £2134.35 for CD, JI & NM Gabbott of Rainow.

The overall average for was 206.84p/kg.

CLEAN
A Hereford heifer topped the clean cattle, weighing 615kg, she sold to 289p/kg to gross £1777.35 for Keyholders Farming of Ipstones Edge with a Dexter topping the steers weighing 325kg he sold to 226p/kg to gross £734.50 for D Littleton of Norton Green.

The overall average was 267.22p/kg.

A mixed quality forward with trade easier in general saw the best to £2800 for a second calver from the Wayne family of Ible.

Close behind at £2740 was a third calver from the Mellor family of Earl Sterndale, who also had a heifer to £2400.

A smashing run of in-calf heifers from Mick & Kay Hulse topped at £2100.

A good sharp trade for well meated quality lambs although there were a number of lambs requiring further feeding that affected the overall average.

Top price was 350p/kg for 45 kg Texel lambs from R & S Bailey (twice) with a top headage price of £186.44 for the best big lambs from D Williams of Basford.

Another good entry of calves but certainly less money for the continentals this week, although the natives look well sold.
50 CONTINENTAL BULLS
The best are still excellent to sell but the mid-range bulls are less as we move through September, and more calves come onto the market nationally. Five best still topped £600 and up to £660 for a British Blue from Andrew and Sally Shone of Bradnop. Mediums £340 – £450 with smalls also less money and several under £200.
