An increased entry this week of 652 Store and Breeding cattle, selling on a fast trade with plenty of buyers from a wide area.
Breeding Section
A pair of British Blue cows with heifer calves sold very well for JJ & WE Bower of Hyde with the first topping the breeding section at £2480 and the second outfit not far behind at £2380.
A Hereford cow with a Hereford male calf sold to £2280 for D Gee of Rudyard with another Hereford cow and male calf achieving £2240 for JJ & WE Bower of Hyde.
Young Bulls
23 young bulls were on offer with a pair of 9-month-old Limousin bulls topping at £1870 for B Goldstraw of Winkhill with another pair at 9 months old achieving £1400 from ID Stubbs Farming Ltd of Leigh.
An 11-month-old blonde bull sold to £1550 for GC & JL Turner of Abbots Bromley.
The overall average for young bulls was a very pleasing £1224.78.
Steers
296 Steers were on offer, achieving a top price of £2460 for a 20-month-old Limousin from SE & AR Buxton of Sudbury. A 24-month-old Limousin sold to £2280 for T R Lomas of North Rode with others at 22- and 23-months old selling to £2190 and £2170 respectively for the same vendor. Another 22-month-old Limousin achieved £2140 from R & M Phillips & Sons of Ladmanlow.
Charolais at 23 months old sold to £2390 for SE & AR Buxton of Sudbury, closely followed by a bunch of three at 20 months old which went on to sell to £2330 for R Worthington of Edale and another at 22 months old sold to £2230 for R Worthington also.
Simmental steers at 20 months old topped at £2380 for SE & AR Buxton of Sudbury with another at 32 months old selling to £2360 from MN Bailey of Biddulph Moor.
A 21 month old Aberdeen Angus sold to £2360 for H Lomas & Son of Gawsworth, a bunch of three at 20 months old sold to £2200 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton, a single 23 month old sold to £2180 for P J Taylor of Rainow, another single at 23 months old sold to £2140 for H Lomas & Son of Gawsworth and a pair at 19 months old sold to £2140 for AG Mellor of Sutton.
A pair of British Blue steers at 23 months old sold to £2190 for PW Gerrard of Combridge with another pair at 21 months selling to £2150 for J Davenport of Gawsworth and a single at 20 months old achieved £2110 for PB Wain of Gawsworth.
A single 28-month-old Hereford sold to £2120 for J & I Knight of Horton, a pair of 23-month-old Holstein sold to £1960 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton and a 21-month-old Blonde sold to £1960 for TR Lomas of North Rode.
In the younger cattle, a trio of Aberdeen Angus steers at 12 months old sold to £2100 for JH Kirk & Sons of Mobberley, a single 12-month-old Limousin sold to £2020 for B & BM Rowlinson of Bottomhouse and a bunch of three 9-month-old Limousin sold well to achieve £1940 for A J Peach of Warslow.
The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1521.57, an increase of over £24/head on a fortnight ago.
Heifers
317 heifers were on offer with a top price of £2290 for a trio of 25-month-old Simmental from CJS Farms of Lask Edge with a 21-month-old Simmental selling to £2180 for J & I Knight of Horton.
A 22-month-old Charolais sold to £2230 for R Worthington of Edale.
Aberdeen Angus at 34 months old sold to £2200 each for a pair from PB Wain of Gawsworth with a trio of Aberdeen Angus at 20 months old achieving £2080 from R & H Bates & Sons of Marton.
A trio of 24-month-old Blonde heifers sold to £2160 for CJS Farms of Lask Edge with another three at 26 months old achieving £2140 from the same vendor.
A single 11-month-old Limousin sold particularly well to £2140 for HJ & JH Ryan & Sons of Altrincham with 23 and 24-month-old Limousin achieving £2040 for T R Lomas of North Rode.
Welsh Black at 23 months old sold to £2070 for Pilkington Farms of Hartington
A pair of 23-month-old British Blue sold to £2000 for PW Gerrard of Combridge with a trio at 11 months old which also sold to £2000 for HJ & JH Ryan & Sons of Altrincham.
The overall average for heifers was a very pleasing £1509.82, an increase of £166/head on a fortnight ago.
