A Holstein cow weighing 655kg topped the barrens today at £1768.50, selling to 270p/kg for Robinson Partners of Rudyard.

Other Holsteins sold to £1679.80, weighing 740kg, for P & M Critchlow of Cubley.

Overall average was 188.54p/kg or £1216.09/head.

Montbeliarde Herd Dispersal to £2700

There was plenty on offer in the Dairy Shed at Leek on Tuesday which included the herd dispersal of the Pedigree Marchside Herd of Montbeliardes on behalf of Chris and Janette Prince of Marchington.
Trade was swift from beginning to end, starting in the commercial section with a sweet heifer from Michael and Caroline Wainwright making £3400, with a second from the same home at £3100.
A lovely group of cows from Messrs Morten topped at £2940, with others to £2900, £2800 and £2700.
A big crowd gathered for the Montbeliarde dispersal which topped at £2700 x4 with 35 passing the £2000 mark. All milkers including those with faults averaged £1983.
In-calf heifers peaked at £1950 with yearling heifers up to £1360. Young calves were also keenly sought after to £940.
Another busy day next week with a nice entry for the monthly pedigree sale. Catalogues will be on-line shortly.

A similar entry selling on a very good trade with the best types dearer again and many more could have been sold.

Best types flying away to 399p/kg from Ian & Andrew Wilson and plenty of others at 370p/kg and better. Best ten pens average 391.6p/kg. More best shaped lambs could be sold every week!!

Best big lambs selling to a top of £226.80. Plenty of other pens at £200 plus, showing the depth of demand.

Store lambs in the entry had plenty of bidders but would arguably be worth more in the store sales.

Overall average 335p/kg.

A great day in the calf shed today, with numbers well up to satisfy buyer demand and a strong trade to match, albeit slightly less than the highs of the previous week! Top 20 bulls in the £730-£860 bracket and the top 20 heifers in the £500-£675 bracket.
