Breeding Sheep Sale Report – 22nd July 2023

There was a total entry of 515 store and breeding sheep were on offer with the majority of the entry being Shearling ewes.

Shearlings & Ewes
Topped at £245 for a pen of 5 Beltex from Johnathan Hall of Longnor with Texel shearlings up to £192 from Messrs House of Somerford (twice) and also for 2 pens from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough. The same vendor also sold another pen of 10 Texel shearlings for £188 and a fourth pen for £185. Another Texel shearling from Pilkington Farmers of Hartington up to £320.

The same price was achieved by Messrs House for a further pen of 5 Texels. Messrs Greatorex of Derby achieved £180 for 7 Texels.

Suffolk shearlings from Ian Gregory of Peak Forest sold up to £178 with Dutch Spotted Texels from J B Wright of Hartington up to £165.

Older ewes achieved up to £204 for a pen of 2 crop Suffolk ewes from C Needham of Foxt with 2 crop Texels from the same vendor at £192, £188 & £182.

2 to 3 crop Texels from Brian Clarkson achieved up to £180 with 2 shear Mule ewes from C Needham of Foxt up to £180 and 2 to 3 crop Texels from Brian Clarkson up to £170.

2 shear Beltex ewes from H Taylor and Partners of High Leigh achieved £150.

Breeding Rams
There were a number of breeding rams on offer with Shearling Rams selling up to £500 for a Texel from Messrs Talbot of Bank Top with Charollais up to £130 from John Goldstraw of Waterhouses with Charollais Ram lambs again from Messrs Talbot up to £300.
