Calves on fire this week with a new top price for Leek of £890 for a British Blue bull with Blue heifers to £650

Barrens to 292p/kg, seeing a top headage price of £2157.60

Clean cattle to 338p/kg with a top headage price of £2150.40

Over 1,000 head of sheep on offer with Hoggs to 426p/kg or £205.41/head and Ewes topping the £300 mark to £302

Another large entry of pigs, selling to 195p/kg

Barren cows in demand with more needed each week to meet demand.

Selling on a strong trade this week, topping at 292p/kg for a Limousin cow weighing 655kg to gross £1912.60 for J Gilman & Partners of Bosley who also had a second Limousin weighing 710kg close behind at 290p/kg to gross £2059.

A Swedish Red cow weighing 690kg achieved 247p/kg to gross £1704.30 for NE Goodwin & Son of Upper Hulme.

Friesians topped at 239p/kg, weighing 640kg, grossing £1529.60 for JW Brandrick & Son of Beamhurst.

The top headage price of the day was £2157.60 for a 930kg Shorthorn cow from D & J Moseley Ltd of Caverswall with another Shorthorn weighing 700kg achieving 226p/kg to gross £1582 for the same vendor.

The overall average was a very pleasing 231.19p/kg or £1617.17/head.

CLEAN
A Hereford steer weighing 330kg topped the clean cattle today at 338p/kg to gross £1115.40 for RA Lomas & Partners of Aldwark. The same vendor had a pair of Dairy Shorthorn steers to 334p and 326p to gross £1169 and £1092.10.

JE Archer & Sons had a 640kg Aberdeen Angus steer to 336p/kg to gross £2150.40, being the top headage price of the day. A pair of Friesian steers sold to 331p/kg and 318p/kg to gross £2019.10 and £1796.70 for the same vendor.

The overall average was 301.42p/kg or £1156.05/head.

A massive show of pigs again today with more of a mixed entry, trade 10p less on the week with a lot of mixed goods in. Best pigs sold to 195p for Massie Farms. Sows a bit more bounce today.

Porkers sold to 150p for SL Seabridge.

Cutters sold to 193p, 180p, 162p for G Weston. New vendor J Davies from Holyhead sold to 192p. M Groom to 170p.

Bacon pigs sold to 195p for Massie Farms who had others to 195p, 193p, 192p, 191p, 190p. J Davies to 193p. G Weston to 192p. PF+PD Parsons 191p, 190p, 189p.

A mixed show of heavies with the good the bad and the ugly selling to 178p for L Harding who had others to 167p, 135p. K Lloyd, Anglesey sold to 154p, 142p. R Darlington sold heavy gilts to 136p, 135p.

Sows sold to 80p for R Rowlinson, DW Brown to 65p S Bailey to 36p.

DAIRIES TO £2600

Dairy trade continues to remain resilient, topping at £2600 for a second calver from the Broomhouse Herd of Messrs Easom. Another second calver from the same home reached £2450.

A great entry forward for the Pedigree Sale next week with 64 entered to date. Catalogues will be available on-line shortly.

Unreal to sell with all averages continually over £500 and a new record price of £890 for a British Blue X (33 days) from Messrs Furness & Taylor, Wormhill and purchased by a local finisher. Three other bulls over £700 with plenty more £600 – £700. Only five bulls under £500.
