The Easter Tuesday sale with good entries forward. A busy morning in the sheep shed attracted a good entry and a fast trade in all sections with spring lambs to 439p/kg, hoggs reaching 371p/kg, and cull ewes reaching crazy heights of £251.
A shortage of barren cattle saw a strong trade with the best to 189p/kg and £1513.35.
A nice entry of milkers saw heifers to £2020. Don’t forget to check out the pedigree dairy catalogue online over the weekend.
The pig shed saw a good entry selling on a strong trade, with the best cutters topping at 220p/kg and 214p/kg for bacon pigs.
Calves sold well for the quality on offer saw the best continentals to £405 for a Simmental bull and heifers to £250.

Only a small entry for the bank holiday Tuesday and a very strong trade! Top price of 189p/kg for a 550kg Charolais cow from G R Weston, Longsdon with a 540kg British Blue at 186p/kg from R W Radford, Longnor. A 570kg Beef Shorthorn sold for 180p/kg from GG Hall & Son, Croxden.
Black & white’s sold to 177p/kg twice for a 635kg Holstein from A & JE Goldstraw, Waterhouses and for a 685kg Holstein from S & M Huxley. 173p/kg for a 610kg Holstein from W E Turnock & Sons, Onecote who also sold a 885kg Holstein at 171p/kg.
Overall average of £176.39p/kg or £1068.85 per head.
Two overage steers topped at 230p/kg for a 640kg Hereford and a 630kg Hereford for 210p/kg, both from Home Farm, Rushton Spencer.
Top headage price of £1513.35 for Holsteins with others at £1212.45, £1123.95 and Charolais to £1039.50 and Beef Shorthorns to £1028.50.
CLEAN CATTLE;
A small entry sold to 250p/kg for a 600kg Simmental heifer from Home Farm, Rushton and a 545kg Charolais at 242p/kg from the same home.

A reduced entry saw a top price of £2020 for a pretty heifer from Andrew Armett of West Leake to Messrs Robinson of Rudyard.
A second calver giving 31.5kg from Bradbury & Brookes of Field reached £1940 and went for Ed Clowes of Kingsley.
Some nice entries already in for the Pedigree sale next week with the herd sale of Procross on the 25th April.

Once again, a strong show of pigs with some real quality of on offer, a few less in today totalling 111 head. Trade remains on fire for those best pigs with no fats below 140p/kg today, topping at 220p/kg for 82kg gilts from D Goldstraw, Meerbrook. Only one sow on offer selling to 50p/kg. Long may this trade continue the averages speak for themselves.
Cutting Pigs
Cutters a solid trade topping at 220p/kg for 82kg gilts from D Goldstraw, Meerbrook, Boars from the same home realised 194p/kg for 84kg pigs. Other top prices include 216p/kg for an 84kg gilt from S Bailey, Knypersley. JA&B Minshull, Buxton had 78kg pigs to 213p/kg. Multiple pens past 200p/kg, trade generally 185-195p/kg.
Bacon Pigs
Baconers topped at 214p/kg for 94kg pigs from Massie Farms, Stafford who had a run to 213p/kg, 212p/kg x3, 211p/kg & 208p/kg. D Goldstraw, Meerbrook had an 89kg gilt to 214p/kg. J&B Fentem Allsop En-Le Dale had an 89kg trio to 208p/kg. PF+PD Parsons, Whitchurch saw 204p/kg for an 87kg trio. Trade generally 190p/kg+ with headage prices well over the £200 Mark on several occasions.
Heavy Pigs
Heavies topped at 180p/kg or £295 for a 164kg gilt from B E Wain, Siddington. PF+PD Parsons, Whitchurch saw 150p/kg for 106kg pigs and RA Watson, Fenny Bentley Saw 146P/kg for a 166kg boar.
Cull Sow
One cull sow from RA Watson, Fenny Bentley topped at 50p/kg for a 228 kg sow.
