Market Report Tuesday 13th June

A hot summers Tuesday with 225 cattle, 1460 sheep and 133 pigs forward.

Dairies sold on a super trade with heifers to £2320 and £2270.

A busy sheep shed saw trade dip on the week, as to be expected for the time of year, but the best continue to sell well topping at 332p/kg and £155.29. Hoggs continue to sell on a good demand with meated sorts to 292p/kg but plenty of leaner, under done sorts harder to place. A bumper entry of ewes sold up to £180.

Pigs getting dearer and dearer each week, with the best to 235p/kg and plenty 220p/kg and above!

Calves sold well with natives looking the best sold on the day. Top prices of £420 for bulls and £290 for heifers.

Barren cows sold on a solid trade, despite a lack of best quality cattle seeing a top price of 178p/kg and clean cattle to 224p/kg.

No best meated cows this week which affected the averages but top price of 178p/kg twice for a 740kg Simmental from HS & A Callwood, Knutsford and for a 670kg Friesian from R Cooper & Son Ltd, Church Lawton.

OTM Steers sold up to 205p/kg for a 845kg Angus from A Scott, Marthall, who also sold a 665kg Angus for 202p/kg and a 650kg Angus for 198p/kg.
A Dairy Shorthorn bull weighing 990kg sold for 150p/kg from HS & A Callwood, Knutsford.

CLEAN CATTLE;
A 505kg Hereford steer sold for 224p/kg from R Edwards, Freehay and Friesian steers sold up to 210p/kg for a 635kg steer from B E Wain who also sold a 585kg Friesian for 190p/kg.

PIGS (119);

Fat pigs just as dear as last week. More forward with 133 on offer topping at 235p/kg, sows slightly less topping at 82p/kg. Pig trade has reached a new level for those best pigs, the averages do very much speak for themselves.

Porkers topped at 235p/kg for 74kg pigs from J&B Fentem, Allsop en-le Dale, others from the same home to 233, 231 & 227 p/kg. M Banham, Bromsgrove saw 233p/kg for 70kg pigs and 230p/kg for 75kg pigs. Nothing under 220p/kg including boars.

Cutting Pigs topped at 234p/kg x3 for J&B Fentem for 74 7 78kg pigs. J Ball, Betchton also saw 234p/kg for 85kg pigs. M Banham saw 231 and 227 p/kg for 80kg pigs. Again nothing under 220p/kg.

Baconers topped at 235p/kg for PF+PD Parsons, Whitchurch for 90kg pigs who had others to 233 x3. Massie Farms, Stafford had a run to 234p x3 233 x5 and 232p/kg. numerous pens 225p/kg +. Top headage £228.69.

Heavies topped at 231p/kg for a 108kg pigs from R Rowlinson, Ramshorn or £249.48 in the lump.

Sows a strong trade topping at 82p/kg for a 165kg sow from J Ball, Betchton. A 304kg sow from R Rowlinson realised 80p/kg.

A superb trade for milkers on Tuesday saw a 33kg heifer from Messrs Platts of Bamford top the day at £2320. They also had a second to £2270.
Andrew Ball of Sandbach saw his 28kg heifer reach £2260.
In-calf heifers topped at £1970 from Richard Lomas of Calow.
Cows topped at £1800 for a third calver from Andrew Coxon of Church Broughton.
Next week is the monthly Pedigree Sale with good entries already received including a group of 17 Procross In-calf heifers.
Tuesday 27th June will see the dispersal on behalf of Arthur & Helen Mayer of Brown Edge. See further details below.

A similar entry met good bidding but a lower prices, as is experienced in all other locations.

Best types still seeing good returns topping at 332p/kg and best big lambs still grossing £150/head and better, to a top of £155.29 from Gordon Rowlinson.

Overall average at 296p/kg looking respectable against other markets today.

Still good numbers for the time of year seeing strong bidding for all heavy meated sorts topping at 292p/kg or £192.50/head.

Lean types proving more difficult to place on a weekly basis.

A bumper entry saw a very solid trade throughout with best ewes to £180/head for Texels.

Overall average returned at £112/head.

CALVES (161);

Good numbers again this week and trade very strong throughout with the second and third quality and all natives looking well sold on the week.

57 Continental Bulls
Good numbers and some excellent quality at the top end and plenty of punters for them. 10 best bulls topped £350 with a posh Simmy from Chris Tams, Yarlet at the top at £420. Medium bulls £240 – £320 with a few the smallest bulls under £200.
