Barrens topped at £1876/head this week for a Simmental cow weighing 700kg which sold to 268p/kg from J M Robinson, Swythamley.

Also at 268p/kg was a 620kg British Blue which grossed at £1661.60 from F & J Barlow of Froghall.

CLEAN
A longhorn heifer at 400kg grossed at £1196, selling to 299p/kg for R Wilson of Hollington with a pair of Limousin heifers selling to £1082.40 and £1014.60 for the same vendor.

Overall average 276.72p/kg or £1097.67/head.

A few less pigs on offer and trade on the whole not too bad, top price 192p or £187. Gilts a pleasure to sell and boars remain harder work but all getting sold.

Bacon pigs to 192p for distant travellers OT Davies, Anglesey. Massie Farms to 171p, 170p, 165p, 164p, 162p. G R Weston to 160p. S Bailey 149p.

Heavies to 160p for B Minshull who had others to 144p. C Hine to 142p.

Clean gilts to 70p for OT Davies and Massie Farms to 68p, 63p.

Blistering Trade at Leek Pedigree Sale
Heifers to £4000, 26 £3000+

A scorching trade for milkers at the June pedigree sale saw virtually all passing the £2000 mark and topping at £4000 for a superb heifer from the Shepherd family of Bakewell.

Meldamar Mecca Eilwen 241 oozed style. By SBG Mecca, she boasted a EX90, 80 ton G.Dam and was sold giving 31kg. She went to the Hargreaves family of Cresswell.

The Critchlow family of Cubley were hot in pursuit at £3800 for an Applejax daughter giving 30kg. They had a second at £3750 by Delta Wirdum both clinched by Red Earth Farms of Leek.

John Allen of Tutbury saw his Raiton heifer reach £3700 to Messrs Burton of Harpur Hill.

A smashing run of 7 from regular vendors Messrs Easom of Oakerthorpe, all but one second calvers topped at £3600 to average £3092.

The Flower family of Friden had a tremendous run in including four Danish Red X heifers. All were keenly sought after topping at £3400 to average £3150.

All milkers averaged an unbelievable £2978
