Have you time to help a local Veterinary Student in her studies?”
Hello, my name is Charlotte Townsend and I’m a vet student from Leek, studying at the University of Edinburgh. I’m conducting a survey for my dissertation on foot health management in dairy herds and would really appreciate your help. By taking part, you would be helping improve our understanding of what resources you find helpful when making decisions about the foot health of your herd. This will hopefully allow future resources to be made with your preferences in mind, to be more useful and accessible for everyone.
If you can give just 5-10 minutes of your time, please find a paper copy or the QR code for my survey at the Market reception. Thank you for your support!
I will be attending the market on Tuesday 17th and Saturday 21st December.

Red Hot Trade at Christmas Pedigree Show & Sale
Top of £3460
* 13 Over £3000 * 52 Over £2000 *
Pedigree Entry Averaged £2494
Vendors did not disappoint at the 2024 Leek Christmas Pedigree Show and Sale with a truly exceptional level of quality on offer. As one regular purchaser commented, “maybe one of the best show of milkers he had seen!” A sincere thanks to both vendors and purchasers for their continued support at Leek.
The job of judging was consequently quite a task; however, I think few could fault the decisions of Stuart Heath who pulled out a great line up on both the cow and heifer class.
Top honours within the cows went to regular vendors, the Shepherd family of Bakewell. Meldamar Pursuit Bethany 96 was a Pine-Tree-I Pursuit daughter, fresh with her second, she was giving 41kg. Going on to take Reserve Champion she was purchased by the judge at £3150.
First in the heifer class went to the Mellor family of Earl Sterndale for their Fairmont Ridgeline daughter Braemarhouse Ridgeline Henriette. She was awarded Supreme Champion by judge Stuart Heath who went on to purchase her for £3400.
Topping the day however at £3460 was the heifer placed second Tissington Taz Amy 3. By Hartford Ruby-Taz and giving 32kg, she was clinched by Richard Torr of Tissington.
In-calf heifers topped at £1950 from Richard Lomas of Calow, purchased by D Robotham.
So, so many highlights to the day not least that an amazing 13 passed the £3000 mark with 52 passing £2000 to average a superb £2494.
Thanks to everyone that supported the event, particularly sponsors, vendors and purchasers. The dairy team would like to extend very best of wishes for Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you all again in 2025.
