New record for Leek in the calf shed with British Blue bulls to £980, £960 and £950!! Heifers to £650

Over 1,000 head of sheep on offer seeing hoggs to 491p/kg to top at £229.85/head and ewes to £310

Barrens to 287p/kg to a top headage price of £1931.10

Excellent trade for the Dairy Pedigree Sale seeing a top price of £3680 and the top ten over £3000!

Pigs to 238p/kg, selling to a top of £260.25/head

Strong trade in the barrens today seeing plenty of buyers around the ring with more cows needed each week to meet demand.

Top price of the day was 287p/kg for a 520kg Limousin cow to gross £1492.40 for F Potter & Son of Yeaveley.

A 555kg Flekvieh reached 276p/kg to gross £1531.80 for EB & BM Sutton of Congelton who also had Montbeliarde weighing 655kg to 266p/kg to gross £1742.30.

Top headage price of the day was £1931.10 for a 785kg Shorthorn which sold to 246p/kg for GG Hall & Son of Croxden.

CLEAN
A small entry of clean cattle this week, seeing a 445kg Dairy Shorthorn heifer sell to 332p/kg to gross £1477.40 for R A Lomas & Partners of Matlock.

Holstein heifers sold to 293p/kg to gross £2021.70 for RG & AS Williamson of Wetley Rocks.

The overall average was 294.93/kg or £1526.29/head.

Similar numbers to last week with a more mixed show of pigs on offer, best pigs a pleasure to sell, under finished pigs harder work. Shop pigs sold well to 238p or £260.25. Gilts generally 200p – 220p, boars 140p – 160p. Under finished or out of spec pigs around 100p.

Porkers sold to 202p for SL Seabridge.

Cutters sold to 220p for DH & J Poulson, Llangadog, B Minshull to 215p, S Seabridge to 206p, J&B Fentem to 206p, G Weston to 194p for Hoggs.

Bacon pigs sold to 238p for M Fradley who had others to 224p, Massie farms sold to 223p, 219p x3, 213p, 209p, 207p, 206p, JG Belfield to 209p, 203p, J & B Fentem to 209p, 208p, A Shinton to 209p, B Minshull to 206p, C Hine to 205p, 203p.

A mixed show of heavies sold to 225p or £260.25 for Massie Farms who had others to 225p, 216p, 210p, C Hine to 157p for boars.

A 161kg clean gilt sold to 119p for S Bailey with more needed each week.

Sows a mixed trade selling to 50p for Rosie Watson, D H & J Poulson to 30p.

ELECTRIC TRADE AT LEEK PEDIGREE SALE
TOP OF £3680
10 OVER £3000

Quality drew out the crowd on Tuesday for the March Pedigree Sale at Leek with trade setting of at a pace from the start.

Leading the day was Shieldhouse Prosecco Joyful from the Weston family of Roston. By Prosecco, she was sold giving a massive 41.6kg and was eventually clinched for £3680.

Cows were hot in pursuit with a second calver from the Braemarhouse Herd of Messrs Mellor reaching £3400. By Claynook Zolton, she had given 8655kg as a heifer and was sold giving 34kg.

A heifer from the Broomhouse Herd of Messrs Easom by Denovo 17885 Aster made £3350. They also saw their run of second calvers all pass the £3000 mark topping at £3150.

A smashing run of heifers from the Cubley Herd of Messrs Critchlow topped at £3350 with others to £3320 and £3100.

Trade surpassed all expectations with 10 passing £3000, more certainly needed to satisfy demand!

Young calves were also keenly sought after with a lovely heifer calf from Red Earth Farms reaching £520.

Perhaps a few less than we might have expected but an exceptional trade throughout for the good, the bad and the ugly.

Not as many of the very best forward with a couple of orders not getting filled, more of the best shaped lambs required each week.

Best flying away to 491p/kg from the Challinor family of Dilhorne and plenty more at 450p/kg and better.

Big hoggs top at £229.85/head.

SQQ average at 407p/kg for a poorer quality show in general with overall averages at 390p/kg or £178/head.
