Market Report Tuesday 22nd July

There was a good show of buyers around the dairy ring for the dispersal sale on behalf of David Tomlinson, seeing a top price of £3350 for a fresh heifer.

More pigs on offer today with a top price of 226p/kg for fat pigs.

Some good quality on offer in the calf shed with a British Blue bull topping at £685 and a British Blue heifer topping at £590.

Less barrens on offer but a good average was achieved at 221.79p/kg.

764 sheep on offer with lambs topping at 400p/kg and a top gross price of £210.10 but many more could be sold. More Ewes on offer this week, topping at £240/head.

Top price of the day was 278p/kg for a 515kg Limousin cow from JD Alcock of Elkstones which topped at £1431.70 with a 585kg British Blue selling to 246p/kg to gross £1439.10 for the same vendor.

A P Wain of Forsbrook had a 725kg British Blue cow to 275p/kg to gross at £1993.75 which was the top gross price of the day.

A 720kg Holstein sold up to 237p/kg to gross £1706.40 for P F Gilman of Thorncliffe who also had another Holstein weighing 800kg selling to 229p/kg to gross £1782.50.

A 775kg Holstein sold to 230p/kg to gross £1782.50 for P & M Critchlow of Cubley.

Overall average was 221.79p/kg.

Cutters sold to 205p & 202p for Alan Shinton, Ellesmere. J&B Fentem to 195p, C Hine to 193p.

Bacon pigs sold to 223p or £224.12 for Nick Brown & Family, Marston Montgomery two cracking Pietrain gilts. JG Belfield to 217p. Massie Famrs to 215p, 212p x2, 211p, 210p x3, 209p. PF+PD Parsons to 207p, 202p, 201p. C Hine 203p.

Heavies tro 158p for B Minshull and a clean gilt to 116p or £243.60 for R Rowlinson.

Sows sold to 79p for JG Belfield and 76p for R Rowlinson.

A full ring of buyers gathered at Leek on Tuesday for the dispersal on behalf of David Tomlinson Ford Hall. Trade was sharp throughout, peaking at £3350 to average £1938.

The commercial entry topped at £2420 for a 27kg heifer from Messrs Platts of Bamford with a Montbeliarde X heifer from Messrs Smith of Quarnford at £2380.

A great crowd turned out to support David Tomlinson for his dispersal. Prices topped at £3350 for a fresh Seville heifer giving 32kg with others to £3120 & £2950.

Overall, 34 passed the £2000 mark with many £2500 + to average an excellent £1938 which included a number of cows with faults.

A busy day in the dairy shed next week. We have the sale of some smashing cows on behalf of the Campbell family which really should not be missed.

Also 20 fresh cows from one home and a special entry of 25 Pedigree bulling heifers from the Cubley herd of Messrs Critchlow.

A seasonal entry met an excellent trade with very good demand, particularly for the best shaped, well finished lambs of all weights.

Overall average was 349p/kg.

Best sorts regularly at 370p – 400p and plenty grossing £160 – £180/head to a top of £210.10. 39kg – 45kg lambs averaged 350p/kg and 45kg – 52kg averaged 356p/kg or £170/head.

More could be sold each week to the vendor’s advantage.
