The Bank Holiday weekend didn’t seem to have any effect on the entries today with a bumper entry in the pigs of 169, 137 calves and 1,000 head of sheep on offer.

A few less about today in the barrens with buyers left empty handed.

Top price of the day was 249p/kg for a Holstein cow weighing 735kg to gross at £1830.15 for LTL Partners Ltd of Leigh they also had the top headage price of the day for a 830kg Holstein which achieved 228p/kg to gross £1892.40.

WE Turnock & Sons of Onecote had a 695kg Holstein sell to 247p/kg to gross £1716.65.

A 605kg Friesian sold to 246p/kg for DR & A Shuker & Sons of Bosley to gross £1488.30.

C Heath & Sons of Longsdon had a run of Friesians as follows: –

TC Sykes of Congleton sold Jersey cows weighing 365kg and 330kg to 180p/kg and 154p/kg to gross £657.00 and £508.20 respectively.

Cutters sold to 208p for J Ball for gilts and 182p for boars. J&B Fentem to 206p, 200p.JG Belfield to 202p. R Wilson 200p x2. R Scragg to 194p.

Bacon pigs sold to 204p for Massie Farms who had others to 203px2, 202px3, 200px2. PF+PD Parsons to 201px2, 200p, 199p. C Hine to 194p. J&B Fentem 193p, 192p. W Gregson to 187p.

Heavies to 72p for boars from JR Mosedale.

Sows to 65p or £189.80 for JG Belfield.

Store Pigs sold to £92 for G Galbraith who had 25kg pigs to £58. C Walley to £68.

Another strong trade for milkers on Tuesday saw a lovely heifer from Martin Riley of Longnor reach £3450 to Messrs Bailey of Brown Edge.

Others reached £2200 from Edward and Dianne Bennett of Whiston to C Hutchinson of Weston Underwood.

More needed to satisfy demand.

A similar entry sold on a slower trade but well in line with other outlets, with an overall average at 302p/kg.

Best types at 330p – 350p/kg, provided they had good meat cover. Best heavies to £183.96.

A lot of under finished lambs forward which are now trading at 270p – 300p/kg depending on shape and weight. To obtain premium prices, corn fed lambs are required.
