Market Report Tuesday 27th May

Increased entry of Spring Lambs this week seeing a strong trade, selling up to 380p/kg, less Hoggs around as expected, seeing a top price of 333p/kg and Ewes up to £222/head.

Calves still strong with 112 on offer and a top of £710 for a Simmental bull and a British Blue bull with British Blue and Simmental heifers to £540/head.

There was a run of bulling heifers in the Dairy section with a top price of £1310

Barrens sold up to 295p/kg and achieved a top headage price of £1888.

Less pigs on offer this week with bacon pigs up to 179p/kg

There was a good company of buyers around the ring on Tuesday and trade was swift.

Top call of the day was 295p/kg for a Holstein cow weighing 640kg from W E Turnock & Sons of Onecote to gross £1888, who also had a second Holstein weighing 485kg to 285p/kg to gross £1382.25.

A 605kg Limousin cow sold to 289p/kg for T B Thornley of Ashbourne to gross £1748.45.

A 22-month-old Friesian bull topped at 328p/kg weighing 655kg for JAS Agricultural of Ashbourne to gross £2148.40.

Bulling Heifers to £1310
Quality was a little lacking on Tuesday and trade overall for milkers was generally a tad steadier, however, heifers still topped at £2340 for a 33kg heifer from the Wayne family of Ible.

The trade of the day however was for a smashing run of bulling heifers from the Attfield family of Whetstone. These peaked at £1310 to average £1214.
