Busy day in the dairies with the dispersal sale, seeing a top price of £3850

Lambs sold to 400p/kg with a top headage price of £235.60 and Ewes to £240

Barrens to 285p/kg with a top headage price of £2420 and clean cattle to 282p/kg with a top headage price of £1860.55

Pigs sold to 239p/kg with sows to 130p/kg.

Calves sold to £650 for Charolais bull with the heifers not far behind at £640 for a British Blue

More barrens on offer this week with plenty of buyers around the ring to which more could have been sold.

A top gross price of the day was £2420 for an 880kg Holstein cow from TC Sykes of Macclesfield which sold to 275p/kg.

A Friesian topped the price per kg of the day at 285p/kg, weighing 635kg to gross £1809.75 for R A Lomas & Partners of Matlock.

W S W Mills of Ratcliffe on Wreake sold a 620kg Holstein to 282p/kg to a headage price of £1748.40.

The overall average was 221.13p/kg or £1407.88/head.

CLEAN CATTLE

Top price of the day was 282p/kg for a 450kg Holstein heifer from R, E & DR Bennett of Whiston which grossed at £1269.

Top headage price was £1860.55 for a 635kg Holstein from JT & J Forrester of Dilhorne.

P & M Critchlow of Cubley had two Holstein heifers weighing 620kg and 525kg to 290p/kg and 270p/kg.

Overall average was 284.53p/kg and £1586.26/head.

A few less pigs today and an increase in demand. Fats sold to 239p with gilts 205p+ and boars 165-180p. Sows sold to 130p.

Porkers sold to 218p for J&B Fentem.

 

Cutters sold to 220p for J&B Fentem who had others to 219p, 197p, 174p. Chris Hine to 213p.

 

Bacon pigs sold to 239p for A Twemlow for a cracking pietrain gilt, boars from the same home to 221p. J Ball to 222p, Massie Farms to 217p, 216p, 205p,
204p, 203p, 202p. C Hine to 212p. J&B Fentem to 208p. B Minshull to 204p.

 

Heavies sold to 215p for B Minshull. J&B Fentem to 164p and 162p. W Stamper to 150p, 138p, 110p, 108p.

 

Sows very much in short supply selling to 130p for W Stamper, Alan Worth to 118p or £323.32 S Bailey to 80p.

HERD TO £3850 AV £2275

A really fast trade for all dairy stock on Tuesday saw 125 sold with a large crowd gathering for the herd sale on behalf of the Campbell family.

Trade within the commercial section peaked at £2140 for a fresh heifer from Edward and Diane Bennett of Whiston.

Black and white bulling heifers topped at £1390 with Dairy Shorthorns to £1560.

Black and white heifer calves from Red Earth Farms topped at £400.

A great crowd gathered for the herd sale which saw a top of £3850 for a Nortonhill heifer giving 37.2kg. A second heifer by the same bull reached £3750, both heading to Andrew Hulme of Basford.

In total 8 passed the £3000 mark with 46 passing the £2000 mark to average an excellent £2275.

An increased entry, selling on a good trade with plenty of demand, particularly for the best shaped lambs.

Best sorts topping at 400p/kg and plenty of other better sorts at 370p and better. Big lambs very good to sell, up to £235.60/head.

Lightweight, under finished lambs still coming forward and are harder to place.

Overall average at 343p/kg including plenty of the small, lean type.

Overall headage at £144/head. 45kg and over average 350p/kg or £171/head.

Good numbers and an amazing trade throughout, even dearer than we have seen them with a packed ring of buyers looking for numbers.

Average and trade way up with big numbers of buyers after calves. A lovely Charolais topped the day at £650 for Messrs Clowes, Cubley. Eleven best topped over £560 look very well sold. Mediums £450 – £530, definitely dearer on the week with only three just under £400.
