Market Report Tuesday 30th May

A busy Bank Holiday Tuesday market saw 166 Cattle, 110 pigs and 1074 sheep forward.

Some very good prices received in the barren ring seeing the best to 228p/kg and £1599.

Pigs were on fire once again with the best to 228p/kg and numerous pens above 210p.

Good numbers received in the sheep shed despite the bank holiday clash seeing strong demand for all. Top prices of 411p for lambs, 326p for hoggs and ewes to £222.

Calves getting dearer as the demand for stock continues seeing bull calves to £460 and heifers to £315.

Dairies sold well to £2020 for heifers.

An excellent trade for barrens with buyers around the ring looking to secure numbers. Top price today of 228p/kg for a 650kg Friesian from C W Pearce, Tean, who also sold a 720kg Friesian for 212p/kg, a 780kg Friesian for 205p/kg and a 795kg Friesian cow for 198p/kg.

A 495kg Limousin realised 210p/kg from D & EA Jeffrey, Roston.

Top headage price of £1599, £1574.10, £1526.40 and £1482 for Friesians, £1402.70 for Angus’ and £1379.70 for Simmentals.

OTM bulls sold up to 208p/kg for a 545kg Angus from D & EA Jeffrey, Roston, a 715kg Friesian bull sold for 169p/kg from MM & CJ Sutton, Longsdon.

Trade just as dear as last week if not dearer !!!
110 head sold today fats topping at 229p/kg x3 for gilts boars have been well over 200p/kg today. Sows a much more boyant trade topping at 112p/kg.

Porkers on fire topping at 228p/kg for 75kg pigs from J&B Fentem, Alsop en-le Dale, others from the same home to 215p/kg for 73kg pigs. R Watson, Frodsham had a 74 kg pig to 196p/kg.

Cutting Pigs dear on the week topping at 228p/kjg twice from J&B Fentem for 79kg pigs, others from the same home to 227×3, 225, 214, 213 and 212×2 for 79kg pigs and from PF+PD Pasons for 83kg pigs.

Baconers a storing trade averaging £206/head. Top price 229p/kg x3 from Massie Farms, Stafford for 92kg, 93kg and 95kg pigs, others from the same home to 228×3, 227×2 &226p/kg. S Bailey Knypersley had 93 & 96kg pigs to 228p/kg. PF + PD Parsons, Whitchurch topped at 228p/kg for 86 kg pigs and 94kg and 99kg pigs from the same home to 207p/kg.

Heavies topped at 202p/kg for 113kg pigs from RC Allen, Uttoxeter, others from the same home to 192p/kg. 115kg pigs from J&B Fentem topped at 168p/kg

Cull sows topped at 112p/kg for a 144kg sow from R Buckley who had others to 72p/kg and 70p/kg.

One cull boar topped at 41p/kg for a 286kg boar from PJ Barker, Charnwood.

A much bouncier trade this week saw a 30kg heifer from the Platt family of Bamford top at £2020.
Derek Davenport of Sandbach saw his heifer reach £1920.

More numbers are definitely needed to satisfy demand so please get in touch if you have any to sell.

Less numbers forward, potentially due to the bank holiday clash, saw another solid trade with the best in very strong demand.

Best lambs selling to 411p/kg and numerous pens at 390p and better. Best big lambs at £199.50 with again a number of pens at £180 and better.

Overall average of 358.5p/kg.

A good post Bank Holiday entry with plenty of buyers for all categories and a few purchasers going home empty handed as trade was strong.

The continental bulls and heifers had a strong contingent of buyers for both the best and the others with a top price of £460 for a Limousin bull from Andy & Rob Williamson at Bram House aged 21 days old.

The trade not as consistent as the continentals but still strong with a plum of an Angus from Steve Ryder topping the section at £336 (28 days).
