Market Report 3rd November

An exceptional trade for lambs this Tuesday with demand for all types, selling to 258p/kg and overall average of 215p/kg! Cull ewes in strong demand also up to £156.

Another excellent trade for dairies too this week, with a top of £2040 for fresh heifers with numerous heifers £1800 – £2000.

Pigs were a better trade with more demand for fat pigs selling to 139p/kg for bacon pigs and plenty of bacon and heavy pigs 120p/kg and above!
Barrens sold on a steadier trade, with a top price of 136p/kg for a 715kg British Blue cow and black & whites to 134p/kg. Clean cattle sold well up to 210p/kg for a Limousin heifer.

Calves sold on a solid trade again this week, with a top of £385 for Blue bull calves and heifers to £360.

Trade back on the week, and a large proportion of leaner, dairy types forward also.
Top price of 136p/kg for a 715kg British Blue cow from Reg Critchlow, Grindon who also sold to 134p/kg for a 685kg British Blue with a 865kg Friesian at 134p/kg at Foker Grange Farm, Leek.

Other black and whites sold to 126p/kg for a 885kg Friesian for DG & JA Ball, Fulford and 125p/kg for a 815kg Norwegian Red from J W Brandrick & Son, Fole.

Overall average of 96.15p/kg or £664.27 per head.

Top headage price of £1159.10 for a 865kg Friesian from Foker Grange Farm with other black & whites to £1115.10 and £1081 with Simmentals to £1032.50.

Overage steers sold up to 150p/kg twice for 710kg and 655kg Herefords, both from Kevin White, Swinscoe.

Clean Cattle;

The entry saw a top price of 210p/kg for a 540kg Limousin heifer from Reg Critchlow, Grindon, and 192p/kg for a 555kg British Blue heifer from FG, JM & TE Carnwell, with both heifers being purchased by Peter Lymer of J W Ash Butchers, Leek .
A 525kg Simmental heifer realised 164p/kg for C M Carnwell, Kingsley Moor.
Top headage price of £1134 and £1065.60 for heifers.

Another lovely trade on Tuesday for all qualities saw the best in excess f £2000 and older cows particularly dear.

Topping the day was the Easom family of Oakerthorpe with a 37kg heifer at £2040 to B Fox of Barnard Castle. Very close behind at £2020 was a heifer from Michael Wainwright of Buxton to A Hulme of Basford.

John Allan of Tutbury had his heifer to £2000 also to B Fox. Numerous others were in that £1800 – £2000 bracket.

Shorthorn heifers topped at £1840 from Messrs Howe of Litton with a pedigree British Friesian from S Seabridge to £1850.

An even better trade to last week and averages up. Only one pork pig selling at 120p/kg for a 67kg pig from M R Banham, Bromsgrove.

Cutting pigs topped at 130p/kg for a pair of 84.5kg pigs from J & B Fentem with a 79/kg pig at 126/kg for M R Banham and an 80kg pig to 120p/kg for J W Bailey, Cloudside. J & B Fentem sold other cutters to 116p/kg, 109p/kg and 108p/kg twice.

Bacon pigs sold to 139p/kg for 100kg pigs from PF & PD Parsons, who sold bacon pigs at 138p/kg and 136p/kg, with a 93kg pigs at 132p/kg for M R Banham. A 99kg pig sold at 130p/kg for Bernard Minshull and 130p/kg for 87kg pigs from J & B Fentem. Numerous other pens 120p/kg and above.

Heavier pigs topped at 136p/kg for 106kg pigs from David Goldstraw, Meerbrook with a 105kg pigs at 130p/kg for PF & PD parsons, and 130p/kg for 111kg pigs from M R Banham and the same price paid for 106g pigs from S Bailey, Knypersley.

Cull sows sold to 43p/kg for two sows from S Dillon, Stockport and 40p/kg for a 194kg sow from the same home.

Weaners sold to £29 for a pen of 11 from A Worth, Marton.

Just a few less forward but an exceptional trade throughout for all sorts from light to heavy and best
shaped to commercial qualities. No fewer that 8 active buyers representing 14 buying accounts and all very keen to secure lambs.

Best shaped sorts selling up to 258p/kg with plenty of pens at 230 – 250p. best heavy lambs grossing almost £120.

Overall average of 215p/kg or £92/head including a number of light lambs which were very well bid for.

A much better entry seeing a much stronger demand, with some ewers £15 – £20 dearer on the week.

Best heavy Texel’s selling to £156 from John Mifflin and best Rams to £124.

Mules top side £70 for the best and plenty of meated but not fat ewes at £80 – £100.
Overall average of £69.72.

A good entry of calves again and a good line up of buyers with best bulls looking well sold.
