A busy Tuesday sale saw the Easter Lamb Show & Sale attract an excellent entry of Spring Lambs which sold very well, with the Champion 45kg lamb achieve 980p/kg (£441). Away from the show, demand for sheep was very good, seeing hoggs to 354p/kg, and cull sheep to £224.
A good entry of barren cattle sold on a solid trade, with the best to 197p/kg and plenty 180p/kg and above. Top headage price of £1503.50.
A large entry of pigs this week and prices remain over 200p/kg with the best to 205p/kg and £198.97.
A mixed entry of dairies this week with 44 forward and topping at £2000 for a second calver.
169 calves forward and a large proportion of smaller types forward however demand for all types and the best to £380 for a Blonde bull and heifers to £265.

44 DAIRIES TOP AT £2000
A mixed quality and a mixed trade leaves you wondering whether the 5 pence plus milk price drops are starting to impact.
Topping the day at £2000 was second calver from Bradbury & Brookes of Field with heifers peaking at £1900 from Andrew Mills.
Look out for the sale of the Procross Milking Herd from David Dashwood of Brackley, Northants at the end of the month. These are a really good herd of cows that are well worthy of inspection.

A good show of pigs again with 165 head forward, trade remains very strong particularly for those best sorts. Sows once again in demand.
Porkers were in strong demand today. Top price from JA&B Minshull, Buxton for a 70kg gilt to 190p/kg. GH Davies, Denbigh saw 74kg pigs to 189p/kg and 71kg pigs to 172p/kg.
Cutting Pigs topped at 202p/kg for 77kg pigs from GH Davies. J&B Fentem, Allsop En-Le Dale also saw 202p/kg for 82 kg pigs. PF+PD Parsons, Whitchurch had an 81kg gilt to 201p/kg. Nothing below 160p/kg.
Baconers topped at 205p/kg twice for 95kg and 92kg pigs from Massie Farms, Stafford. Who had others to 202p/kg, 198p/kg & 197p/kg. GH Davies had 91kg pigs to 200p/kg. Trade generally 180p/kg+
Heavy pigs topped at 173p/kg for a pair of 112kg pigs from JG Belfield, Sheen. J&B Fentem saw 160p/kg for a 108kg pig.
Sows Topped at 85p/kg for a 236kg sow from JW&B Bennett, Abbots Bromley, with another from the same home realising 60p/kg. A Worth, Marton has a 164kg sow to 74p/kg.

SPRING LAMBS (99);
A good show of spring lambs for the Easter Show & Sale saw excellent buying support and a solid trade throughout.
Champion of the day went to John & Gary Fryer of Horton who showed an excellent 45kg single lamb which was purchased by Mr Daniel Hill (the Judge) on behalf of M Najib & Sons.
First price in the over 38kg pairs went to RG & AS Williamson who achieved 585p/kg for their 42kg lambs purchased by Peter Lymer of JW Ash & Son butchers of Leek. First prize in the up to 38kg class went to R Brough & Son, Monyash and was purchased on behalf of Lee Walker family butchers of Stone at 540p/kg.
Away from the prize winners, trade was very brisk for the best lambs with plenty at 450p and better with only very heavy or inside lambs at less than 350p/kg.
Overall average of 406p/kg.
