A bumper entry of 210 calves on offer this week with Blue bulls to £720 and Blue heifers to £520

Barrens sold on a good trade with a top of 338p/kg with more needed each week and clean cattle to 383p/kg

Lambs sold to 365p/kg or £192.20/head with ewes to £275/head

Pigs topped at 202p/kg

Dairies sold to £2960 for a second calver

Excellent trade in the Barrens today with more needed each week to satisfy demand.

Top price of the day was a Shorthorn cow weighing 665kg, topping at 338p/kg to give the top gross of the day of £2247.70 for an Ipstones vendor.


Limousin cows topped at 278p/kg weighing 775kg to gross £2154.50 for H Salt & Son of Grindon.

CLEAN
Limousin topped the clean cattle with a heifer weighing 485kg selling to 383p/kg to a gross of £1857.55 for FS & MJ Heath of Pipe Gate.

A Holstein heifer weighing 485kg sold to 312p/kg for A C Scott of Congleton who also had a Holstein steer weighing 460kg to 280p/kg.

Overall average for clean cattle was 325.79/kg.

A huge show of pigs with 155 seen and sold today, trade less and in line with other outlets and the falling deadweight, although a respectable trade, still seeing gilts generally 190-200p, boars 155-165p.

Another electric trade for milkers saw a top price of £2960 for a very sweet second calver from the Wayne family of Ible. They also had a second calver to £2700.

A 25kg heifer from Edward and Dianne Bennett reached £2880.

Bumper numbers for us here at Leek and a remarkable trade once again with all sizes, breeds and shapes represented. The best were remarkable to sell with the top sixteen over £600 with a trio over £700, all British Blues from Sally Shone (£720), Richard Emmott (£720) and Brian Goodwin (£700). Mediums generally £400 – £500 with smaller sorts under £400.
