Top price in the Barrens today was 291p/kg for an 835kg Limousin which grossed £2429.85, being the top headage price of the day, for M A Bowyer of Cheadle. Another Limousin weighing 455kg sold to 250p/kg, grossing at £1137.50 for EJ & DC Kidd of Quarnford.

A 500kg Friesian sold to 264p/kg, weighing 500kg, to a top headage price of £1320 for B J Archer of Hilton.

A 610kg Friesian heifer sold to 317p/kg to gross £1933.70 for D & EA Jeffery of Roston with Friesian steers at 575kg to 300p/kg, grossing £1725 for Roston Farms, and Simmental steers weighing 525kg to 300p/kg to gross £1575 for D & EA Jeffery of Roston.

Holstein sold to 274p/kg to gross £1534.40 for R, E & DR Bennett of Whiston.

The overall average was 298.15p/kg.

A good show of pigs with Christmas well on the way, demand is up, fats topped at 251p or £251.16. gilts generally 210p – 230p, boars 170p – 190p.

Porkers sold to 187p for W Gregson, Preston.

Cutters sold to 239p for J&B Fentem who had others to 212p. Boars to 170p & 162p for B Minshull.

Bacon pigs to 251p for F Bowers, Milwich Heath. Massie Farms to 246p, 239p x2, 238p, 237p, 236p, 235p, 234p, 233p, 226p. J&B Fentem to 241p, 235p x2, 231p x2, 219p, 215p. PF+PD Parsons to 208p.

Heavies to 200p for 108kg gilts from PF+PD Parsons. C Walley to 191p for 110kg gilts. R Rowlinson to 189p for a 129kg gilts. 161kg gilt to 156p for Massie Farms.

Sows remain difficult to place, trading around the 30p mark.

Trade was steadier overall on Tuesday but a lot of this was a reflection on quality.

Topping the day at £1920 was a September calved cow in the herd.

Youngstock sold on a strong trade with yearlings at £900.

A large entry forward for next weeks Christmas Pedigree Show and Sale with 80 entered to date. Come and have a mince pie and buy a cow!

A good entry forward post-Christmas show saw a better-than-expected demand but heavy weight meeting prices consistent to other places.

Best shaped lambs in very good demand, topping at 390p/kg and plenty at 360p – 380p/kg.

Commercial lambs generally 300p – 330p/kg, depending on weight and finish.

SQQ average at 322p/kg and 315p/kg overall with nearly half the entry being heavy or overweight.
