There was a total entry of 2,185 store lambs and breeding sheep on offer with a much sharper trade for store lambs producing an overall average of £71.83 including a high proportion of smaller long term lambs.
Store Lambs (1978)
There were 1978 lambs on offer which topped at £119 for strong Mule wether lambs from Neil Grocott of Leigh with Lleyn lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington at £106. Texel lambs from J T Owen of Wolverhampton at £102.50 and Suffolk lambs from D & Z Partners of Warslow at £102.
Aberfield lambs from Andrew Henshall & Family of Fairfield sold up to £100 with Texel lambs from B & K Stevenson of Quarndon, Derby selling well at £100.
Blue Texel lambs from C J & CM Birch of Alport sold for £97.50 with other Texels at £97 from Graham Jones of Langley, £96 from Hannah Birks of Weston, £92 from Izzy Klucznik of Ipstones Edge, £91 from A L Turnock & Sons of Wincle, £91 also from A R Lancaster Ltd of Congleton.
Zwartble lambs from Neil Grocott of Leigh sold up to £89. Other Texel lambs from CJ & CM Birch of Alport sold up to £97 and £88 from Harold Wainwright of Pott Shrigley with Charollais lambs up to £86 from Neil Grocott and Dutch Spotted lambs from J Walker of Meerbrook at £84. Oxford Lambs topped at £82.50 from the Wain Family of Upper Hulme.
Breeding Section;
A 2 shear Cheviot x Texel ewe scanned in lamb to the Cheviot from Clive Hidderley of Ipstones sold at £210 with a Cheviot x Texel Shearling again scanned in lamb to the Cheviot from G Mainwaring of Ipstones achieved £185.
Mule second crop ewes scanned for twins from W N Tomkinson of Calwich sold for £162 with others at £160.
