There was a total entry of 3,716 store lambs and breeding sheep on offer with the majority being store lambs. Trade was steadier than the sale before Christmas but was anticipated with the recent spell of bad weather and the underlying finished lamb trade. There was a virtually total clearance with some good prices being achieved.
Store Lambs
The top price of the day for store lambs was £99 paid for Suffolks from Graham Jones of Langley with Mule Wether lambs at £96.50 from Pearson & Son of Macclesfield and £95.50 from the same vendor.
Texel Lambs topped at £96 from Curtis & Mountford of Bradnop with others at £94 from Clive Grindey of Adlington, £91.50 from Chris Gabbott & Family of Macclesfield, £88 from Sue Henshaw of Fairfield, Buxton, £87 from RA Critchley of Uttoxeter and £84 from Andrew Bowler of Ashley Hay with a pen from Mark Rowlinson of Ramshorn selling for £83.50.
Woodland Ram Lambs from George Belfield of Wildboarclough sold for £95 with Charollais x lambs from John Haigh of Hatton at £91, another pen from the same vendor at £84 and Cheviot lambs from David Beech of Derby at £83.
Continental mixed lambs from Jane Bonsall of Atlow sold for £82.50 with Charollais lambs from Steven Pye of Swythamley at £81.50.
Overall average achieved for store lambs was £60.22.
Breeding Section;
There were 57 Shearling ewes on offer, mainly being in lamb ewes which topped at £175 for a pen of Texel 4 tooth and older ewes scanned in lamb to the Continental Ram. Other Shearling ewes sold for £154 and £150. Cheviot shearling ewes from BJ Painter of Alfreton being scanned in lamb to the Charollais sold for £135.
In lamb ewe lambs from Mr Hall of Marchington Woodlands achieved £122 being scanned in lamb to the Continental with other ewes of which there was 186 selling up to £182 for a pen of Texel ewes mainly full mouth from Mr Hall of Uttoxeter being scanned in lamb to the Continental with others of similar age at £178 and £168.
