A very successful sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep was held with 7687 sheep on offer and an excellent trade in all sections.
Store Lambs
There were 4910 Store Lambs on offer with a top price paid being £130 for a pen of Suffolk Ewe lambs from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith with other Suffolk Ewe Lambs up to £127 from PJ Hooley of Wildboarclough, £119 from Messrs Hayward and £118.50 from PJ Hooley.
Suffolk Ewe Lambs from A Hayes of Alstonefield sold for £118.50 with a third pen from PJ Hooley at £118.50 also. A pen from N Coxon of Ashbourne sold for £110 with 25 Suffolk Ewe lambs from Messrs Taylor of Bollington at £108.
Texel Ewe Lambs from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith achieved £129 with a second pen from the same vendor at £127 and a pen from G Nutter of Grindon at £113 with CS Edge of Ballidon selling Texel Ewe lambs at £112.
Texel mixed Lambs from M & D Barber of Waterhouses achieved £105 with a pen from Mr Kirkham of Fenny Bentley at £104 with other mixed Lambs up to £99 for I Currington of Biggin and Texel lambs from Messrs Hall of Uttoxeter at £98.50.
Average for Texel Lambs was £86.97/head.
Blue Texel mixed lambs from Messrs Martin of Kirk Ireton sold up to £93 with mixed Lambs from J Hobson of Macclesfield at £86 and £85.
Beltex Mixed Lambs from MW Woodward of Whiston sold for £100 with other Beltex at £93 and £90 to average £92/head.
Suffolk mixed Lambs from S Frith of Thorpe sold up to £94 with others at £93 and £92 to produce an average of £95.77 overall.
Continental X mixed Lambs from MW Woodward of Whiston sold at £106 with the average being £99.81/head with Cheviot mixed Lambs from Tegsnose Livestock of Langley at £88.50 to average £86.79.
Charolais mixed Lambs from J Hague of Hatton topped at £106.50 with other Charolais mixed Lambs at £105 for Messrs Millington of Sheffield, £96 for Mr Cunningham of Bolsterstone and a second pen from J Hague at £96 to average £89.
Lleyn mixed Lambs from C Grindey of Adlington topped at £93 to average £80.52.
Overall average achieved for Store Lambs was a pleasing £86.35.
Ewe Lambs
There were 1862 Breeding Ewe lambs with some excellent prices achieved with Mule Ewe Lambs topping at £170 from Messrs Mycock & Bright of Buxton with others from the same vendor at £168 (twice), £165 (twice), £162 and £160. Other Mule Ewe Lambs from J Burton of
Ilam sold for £154 with £152 being paid for a pen from Messrs White of Belper.
Overall average for Mule Ewe Lambs was £119.98.
Texel Ewe Lambs from D Holland of Blore sold for £162 with other Texel Ewe Lambs from A Hayes at £148, £144 from D Holland ,£142 for F Potter & Son of Yeaveley and £142 from A Hayes and five other pens at £140.
Suffolk Breeding Ewe Lambs were in short supply with the top price being £159 from A Hayes of Alstonefield, £148 from the same vendor and £134 for Messrs Burnett of Rowsley to average £142.75.
The average for Texels was £122.20/head.
An overall average for Breeding Ewe Lambs was £120.26.
Shearlings & Ewes
768 Shearlings were on offer with £210 being the top price paid for a pen of Mule Shearlings for A Torr of Ashbourne with £202 being paid for another pen from R Critchlow & Family from Hartington, £190 from the same vendor, £190 also from A Torr and also for pens from Messrs Staley & Son of Ashbourne and SP Smith of Wymeswold.
Average for Mule Shearlings was £170.68.
Jacob Shearlings from Messrs Kirkham of Hartington sold up to £188 with Herdwicks up to £150 from J Painter of South Wingfield and Mashams up to £168 from P Williams of Tean, Cheviot Shearlings form C Hidderley of Ipstones topped at £180 with a second pen from P Williams of Tean at £170 to average £170.13.
Overall average for Shearlings was £157.94.
Ewes
148 Breeding Ewes, a small entry with Cheviot Ewes up to £150 from Tegsnose Livestock of Langley and £136 for Texel Ewes from J Ashton to produce an average of £100.92 overall.
