Store & Breeding Sheep Sale Report 2nd September

Total entry of 3,454 Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep were on offer with plenty trading all sections.

 

Store Lambs

There were 2350 Store Lambs with prices up to £117 per pen of Charolais from A Heathcote of Macclesfield and a second pen from the same vendor at £100.

Charolais Lambs averaged at a pleasing £92.74.

Suffolk Wether Lambs from P J Hooley of Wildboarclough up to £109 and other Suffolk Lambs from J Burton of Ipstones Edge at £96 and a pen of 50 from P & M Hayward & Son of Chapel en le Frith at £96. A second pen of Suffolks from P Hooley sold for £94.

Suffolk Lambs averaged £88.62 overall.

Lleyn Lambs from Messrs Turner of Longnor sold at £95 to produce an average of Lleyns of £89.41.

Texel Lambs topped at £106 from S Lloyd of Ipstones with a pen from C Needham of Foxt up to £99 and £98.50 was paid for a pen from Mr J Kirkham of Derby. A L Turnock & Sons from Wincle achieved £97 for a pen 57 Texels with LS Riley and Family of Longnor selling at £96.50 and a second pen from C Needham £94, R Frith £94 also.

The average for Texel Lambs which did include a number of smaller sorts, came out at £86.05.

 Mule X Wether Lambs from J Dakin of Rushup Edge achieved £79 with others at £70.

 Mixed Continental Lambs from M Woodward of Whiston sold up to £106.50 with others from Robin Smith of Cheddleton at £95 to average £96.60.

Overall average achieved for Store lambs, including a number of smaller sorts was £85.52 with a total clearance being
achieved.

Ewe Lambs

A small entry of Breeding Ewe Lambs sold up to £125 for Texel Ewe Lambs from S & D Fearn of Wardlow Mires (four times) with a pen from Messrs White of Shottle at £116 to average £107.20.

Shearlings & Ewes

There were 904 Shearlings on offer with a top price of £280 for a pen of 10 Texels from JWA Jeffery of Sudbury (twice) with another pen of Texels from P Storer of Reapsmoor up to £110 and other Texels from E Moss &Son of Endon at £205 and also a pen from L R & M J Lowe of Hulme End.  E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough sold Texel Shearlings up to £200 with several other pens making over £190.

The average for Texel Shearlings was £180 57.

Texel MuleShearlings from E Morten & Sons at Barmoor Clough sold at £192 with another pen of Mule Shearlings from P Williams from Tean at £190 and a pen from S Allen of Butterton £190 and £188 for a pen from GM Wilkinson of Newborough with an average achieved for Mule Shearlings of £159.74.

There was a shortage of quality Suffolks with the best pen from P Williams of Tean selling for £160 (twice) with Cheviots up to £150 for Messrs Wainwright of Bamford Kerry Hill up to £150 from A Eardley of Sutton and Mashams up to £145 from GM Wilkinson of Newborough.

All the Ewes sold up to £140 for a pen of Cheviots from J L Morris of Cresswell with Mule Ewes from J Conway of Glossop up to £110.
