There was a total entry of 7,920 Store and Breeding Sheep were on offer with a very similar trade for store lambs as a fortnight ago and a total clearance being achieved.
Store Lambs (6,426);
There were less strong lambs on offer than a fortnight ago as was anticipated due to the time of the year with top price of the day being £104 paid for a pen of Suffolk lambs from Messrs Walker of Matlock with other Suffolks up to £94.50 from C S Edge of Ballidon and £93.50 from DE & GM Storer of Wincle.
Other Suffolk lambs from Stuart Frith of Thorpe sold up to £92 and £91 from Michael Wain of Brassington.
Charolais lambs from Mr Walker of Matlock, sold up to £98 for a pen of 27 with Texel lambs being in good demand selling up to £96 from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Ramshorn and £95 from Andrew Leason, Ilam and £95 from Ben Shaw of Parwich. Other Texels from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Ramshorn sold up to £94.50 and £93.50 from Mrs Shirley Kirkham of Hartington. Other pens achieved £93 from M Wentworth & Partners of Elkstones, W E Turnock & Sons of Onecote, J Gibbs of Hartington. Several other pens sold for £90 and in excess.
Meatlink lambs from S Chapman of Taddington sold up to £91 with Beltex lambs up to £94.50 from N & AG Eardley of Macclesfield with others from Stuart Frith, Thorpe at £90 and £89.50 from T & JM White of Sheffield, who also sold another pen for £89.
Oxford lambs from R & M Phillips & Son of Ladmanlow topped at £88 with Mule lambs up to £88 from Blaze Farm Partners of Wildboarclough and £86 from D Torr of Ilam.
Overall average achieved for Store Lambs was a pleasing £79.61.
Ewe Lambs (551);
An good show of Ewe Lambs this Saturday with some excellent sorts forward selling on a strong trade. Top price today of £146 for a pen of Zwartble x Charollais lambs from PJ Davenport of Calton.
Plenty of Texel lambs today with a top price of £140 for a 9 Pure Texel’s from S & G Mellor, Cellarhead, with others at £139 for S & D Fearn, Wardlow, £134 for a pen of 6 from Smith & Wardman, Longnor, £126 for E & SM Hughes and others from S & D Fearn at £126 and £116.
Mule ewe lambs topped at £118 for a pen from D E Morten, Chapel en le Frith, with other at £114, £112 and £110 from A M Jones, Rorrington.
Millenium Blue lambs realised £118 fir D & Z Partners, Warslow.
Overall average of £99.70.
Shearlings (536);
Great to see plenty of shearlings again this week and an excellent trade throughout. Top price today of £250 for a pair of Texel’s from A Brown, Biddulph Moor. A super run of Texel & Texel Mule’s from E Morten & Sons, Barmoor Clough sold at £190, £180 (x3), £175 (x2) and £170.
Mules sold up to £164 for a pen of 21 from Geoff Millington, Wincle.
Other Texel’s realised £162 for J W Fentem, Biggin, and £158 for L Worsey, Longford.
Overall average of £140.04.
Ewes (391);
Again, another good show of ewes topping the day at £152 for a pair of Texels from L Worsey, Longford. A pen of 7 Blue Texel ewes made £144 from Lockett Bull Hire. Other Texel’s realised £140 for S K Davies, Sutton.
Mule ewes from FP & ST Sykes, Rainow topped at £138 and £130 who sold others at £115 and £112, with a pen of 14 at £138 from Croots Farm Shop, Duffield.
A pen of 8 Texels (2-3 Crop) made £129 for the Wentworth family, Elkstones, with Herdwick x ewes at £122 for LR & MJ Lowe, Hulme End who sold others at £110 and £118.
Overall average of £84.11.
