There was a total entry of 3,239 store and breeding sheep were on offer with a very strong trade with store lambs being particularly well sold producing an overall average of £95.60!
Store Lambs (2,812);
There was 2,812 store lambs on offer topping at £132 paid for Suffolk x lambs from Alan Wilshaw of Meerbrook with other Suffolks up to £125 from Messrs Walker of Brightgate, £118 again from Mr Alan Wilshaw of Meerbrook, £116 from Ross Worthington of Edale, £112 from D Goddard of Langley, £111 from John Burton of Ipstones Edge with the same price being achieved for a pen of lambs from W E Turnock & Sons of Onecote.
Texel lambs topped at £129 from W E Turnock & Sons of Onecote, with £127 being paid for a pen from B & K Stevenson of Quarndon, Derby, £125 for a pen from Clive Grindey of Adlington, £121 from Stuart Mycock of Warslow, £120 for a pen from A C Heathcote of Macclesfield. There were several other pens of Texels between £110 and £120.
Charollais lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington sold up to £121.50 with another pen from JL & MT Walker of Brightgate at £118 and a pen from Stephen Pye of Swythamley at £115.50.
Lleyn x lambs from Clive Grindey of Adlington topped at £119.50 with Blue Demain lambs up to £113.50 from Sarah Lloyd of Ipstones.
Overall average a very pleasing £95.60.
Breeding Sheep (427);
An excellent entry of breeding sheep, particularly in-lamb ewes.
The Dispersal on behalf of F & N Brunt & Son, Moddershall saw a superb consignment of In-Lamb Texel x ewes, topping at £290 for 12 Shearlings Due Mid March, with a pen of 15 shearlings at £275, 14 shearlings at £215 and 12 Texel x at £210. Older ewes from the same home, due earlier for end of February sold for £205, £192, £195, £182, £170.
The Entry on behalf of A & EJ Beresford, Chelmorton also sold very well with In-Lamb 1 – 2 Crop Mules realising £265 with 7 Mules flock ages making £185 & £170 with Texel x Shearlings to £177 and mixed age Texels to £153.
A pen of 14 Texel x ewes, 4-6 teeth realised £152 for A C Heathcote, Macclesfield
Older In-Lamb Mules generally £130 – £150 and Texels £140 – £165.
3 Pure Texel Ewe Lambs sold for £141 from John Burton, Ipstones with Mule Ewe Lambs to £105 from F P Sykes, Rainow.
