An entry of 453 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer, another good show for the time of year with plenty of buyers in attendance ensuring a strong trade for all categories of stock.
Breeding Section
There was the dispersal on behalf of Tom Campbell of Cheadle which met with good competition. The entry comprised mainly a mixture of Angus cows with calves at foot and in calf Angus cows with the cows in calf selling up to £1660 for an Aberdeen Angus cow with a young Angus calf at foot with and Angus cow with a young Angus male calf at foot exchanging hands for £1640.
In calf suckler cows from the same home topped at £1490, £1440 and £1415.
An entry of two cows and calves from J Badham & Son of Abbots Bromley topped at £1500 for a Simmental cow with a young Simmental bull calf at foot with a South Devon cow with a South Devon heifer calf at foot from H R Taylor & son of Church Eaton exchanging hands for £1370.
A purebred Hereford bull from Frank Belfield of Meerbrook achieved £1520.
Young Bulls
A 14 month old Limousin achieved £890 from Dave Edgecox of Onecote with a 12 month old Limousin from the same farmer at £690 and a bunch of 15 month old Herefords from Messrs Betteridge selling particularly well at £720.
Steers
There were 225 steers on offer with the top price being £1655 for a 32 month old Limousin from Messrs Potts of Mottram St Andrew with another pair of 11 month old Limousins from W J Braddock of Hulme selling particularly well for £1350 and a bunch of 4, 13 month old Limousins from Andrew and Tim Carr & Family of Waterfall at £1310.
Angus steers topped at £1495 for a pair of 26 month old cattle from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel, £1395 again from Messrs Jones of Homes Chapel and £1345 from G & I Wheeldon of Hollington.
Blonde steers at 22 months of age topped at £1470 from Messrs Alcock of Ipstones and 4 Simmental steers from J B Rowlinson & Son of Gawsworth at £1315. A single British Blue steer from Brian Wainwright was well sold at £1285 and Charolais from C & EJ Whilock of Werrington at 24 months of age up to £1285.
Shorthorn steers at 24 months of age from Messrs Alcock of Ipstones sold up to £1223 and another bunch of 14 month old Charolais steers from C & E J Whilock of Werrington selling well for £1200.
Holstien steers were in good demand topping at £1140 for a 15 month old from E Cookson & Partners with other Holsteins up to £1050 for 20 month old pair of steers from Messrs Brunt of Wincle.
12 month old Limousin steers from N R Spencer sold at £980 with an 8 month old Limousin from R Nicholls of Fradswell at £1060 and a bunch of 7 month old Limousins from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield at £1110.
Overall average achieved for steers was £886.44.
Heifers
There were 188 heifers on offer with the top price of the day being £1560 for a 27 month old Simmental heifer from BJ Stephens with another 27 month old Simmental heifer at £1485, a British Blue heifer from the same vendor at 28 months of age sold for £1450 and Limousin heifers from Messrs Alcock of Ipstones at £1395. Aberdeen Angus heifers from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel sold up to £1370.
Young Limousin heifers from Andrew and Tim Carr at 14 months of age sold for £1310 and a 14 month old Limousin from W J Braddock of Werrington at £1240.
British Blue heifers at 23 months of age from Messrs Brunt of Winkhill sold for £1295 with Shorthorn heifers at 14 months of age from Emma Trueman of Quarnford at £108, South Devon heifers at 22 months of age from P Shaw of Tutbury at £1080, Charolais heifers at 14 months of age at £1070 from C & E J Whilock of Werrington.
Younger heifers sold up to £1065 for 11 month old Limousin from D A & L M Moss of Rushton Spencer with 5 Limousin heifers from Alan Hayes at 11 months of age selling for £1010.
Overall average achieved for heifers was a pleasing £779.15 which did include a number of smaller sorts.
