656 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer, another excellent entry of all classes of cattle with trade equally firm as a fortnight ago, with again, some excellent prices being achieved.
Breeding Section
A dairy Shorthorn heifer with a young Limousin bull calf at foot, for Mr Litchfield of Newborough, exchanged hands for £1860 with feeding cows from Ian Whilock of Werrrington up to £1610.
Other feeding cows, from Norton Green, sold up to £1330 for a British Blue X cow and £1160 for a Simmental X cow.
Young Bulls
A 14-month-old Limousin bull, from A M Sayer of Hilderstone, sold for £2600, with a pair of 7-month-old Limousin bulls, from the same vendor, selling particularly well at £1720 and a 24-month-old Limousin bull, from R & M Phillips & Sons of Ladmanlow, at £1560. A pair of 9-month-old Shorthorns from GW & MA Platt & Son achieved £1520, with a 23-month-old Hereford, from Jane Clowes of Ipstones, at £1480.
Overall average for young bulls was £1291.
Steers
There were 268 steers on offer with the top price of the day being £2530 for a bunch of three Shorthorn steers, at 22 months old, from Mrs Mary Rowlinson of Cotton, with other Shorthorns, from the same vendor, at 21 months of age, at £2500 and £2470.
Charolais steers from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks, at 21 months of age, topped at £2520 for a bunch of three with two more Charolais, at 20 months of age, from the same vendor, at £2500.
Hereford steers from Ian and Andrew Wilson and Family of Hollington, at 23 months of age, were particularly well sold at £2380 with another 23-month-old Hereford steer, from the same vendor, at £2240 and a pair of 20-month-old Herefords, from John Brookes of Uttoxeter, at £2020.
Limousin steers, again from Ian and Andrew Wilson and Family, at 19 months old, sold up to £2250 with a pair from Sam Jolley of Milton, at 19 months of age, up to £2200 and an 11-month-old Limousin, from Gavin Peach and family of Warslow, achieving up to £1990.
British Blue steers from B Pegg at Sturston, at 23 months of age, topped at £2180 with another 21-month-old British Blue steer, from AD & J Potts of Astbury, to £2100 and a 17-month-old British Blue steer, from Fiona Mycock of Cauldon, at £2040.
A pair of Whitebred steers, at 26 months of age, from Les and Phylis Wardle of Ipstones, were bid for keenly at £1900.
Friesian steers from The Red Lion Inn Ltd of Dayhills, at 22 months, topped at £1680.
Other young cattle sold up to £1880 for a bunch of four 12-month-old Limousin, from MJD Farms of Alstonefield, with a 9-month-old Limousin steer from Gavin Peach at £1750 and Limousin steers from Robert Flower and Family of Alstonefield, at 11 months of age, up to £1710.
Overall average achieved for steers was £1478
Heifers
There were 345 heifers on offer with Simmentals topping at £2490 for AD & J Potts of Astbury being a pair at 22 months old, with another Simmental, at 20 months old, from the same vendor, at £2200 and a pair of Aberdeen Angus, from the same vendor, at 23 months of age, at £2430. Other Aberdeen Angus sold up to £2120, at 19 months of age, for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton with a pair of 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from the same vendor, at £2120 and a bunch of three 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus from John Brookes of Uttoxeter at £2080.

A Limousin heifer, having show potential, from A M Sayer of Hilderstone, at 19 months of age, was bid for keenly and topped at £2160 with another Limousin at 22 months of age, from J & I Knight of Horton, at £2100.
Younger cattle sold up to £1570 for a 13-month-old Limousin from Messrs Collins of Spondon with a bunch of three South Devon heifers, at 11 months old, from Keith and Alison Wilton of Buxton at £1560 and another 12-month-old South Devon, from the same vendor, at £1510.
A bunch of five 11-month-old Limousin from Gavin Peach achieved £1470.
Overall average for heifers was a very pleasing £1305.
