Breeding Section
There was still a shortage of suckler cows with just 2 Limousin cows on offer having run with the Limousin bull from EJ & DC Kidd of Quarnford which were well sold at £970 and £880.
Young Bulls
Top price achieved was £815 for a 10 month old Simmental from John Harper of Ipstones Edge with another 8 month old Simmental from the same farmer at £725 and an 8 month old Hereford from Mark Cottrill of Newcastle at £715.
British Blue bulls sold up to £710 for an 8 month old from Chris Armstrong of Bignall End with the average for young bulls being £465 a head
Steers
The were 240 steers on offer which continued to be well sold up to £1400 for a 24 month old Charolais from Curbishley Farms of Congleton with a bunch of 3 good shaped Limousin at 21 months of age from Peter Richardson of Ipstones being well sold at £1390 and another bunch of 3, 18 month old Limousins from Joel Pudsey of Quarnford at £1220 and a 31 month old Limousin from JE White & Family of Sheffield at £1205.
British Blue steers from Richard and George Webster of Fenny Bentley sold up to £1345 at 27 months with a bunch of 4, 22 month old British Blue steers from AD & J Potts of Astbury at £1300 with Simmental Steers at 15 months of age up to £1280 from Robert Day of Cheddleton. Other Simmental steers from John Deaville of Bucknall sold up to £1260 with Angus steers from Messrs Carbutt of Siddington at 25 months of age selling up to £1265 and another pair at 23 months of age from R A Bayley of Sutton at £1245. Peter Mitchell sold a bunch of 3, 24 month old Angus for £1200.
Hereford steers sold to a top price this week of £1160 for a bunch of 4 from R A Lomas & Partners of Aldwark at £1260 with another pair of 22 month old Herefords from Messrs Carbutt at £1145 and others from R A Bayley of Sutton at £1140. The same price was paid for a bunch of 4 from Old Hall Farm Partners of Balterley, Nr Crewe.
Welsh Black steers from Richard and George Webster of Fenny Bentley at 20 months of age sold up to £1100 with Stabiliser steers at 23 months up to £1075 from J E White of Sheffield.
Younger cattle sold up to £1035 for a 10 month old Simmental steer from Jim Bennison of Ipstones with a pair of 10 month old Limousin from Andrew and Tim Carr of waterfall at £1020 and another Simmental at 10 months of age from Messrs Read at Knutsford at £1000.
Named sire Beef Shorthorn steers from Mick Reeves & Family of Ipstones were well sold up to £945 at 13 months of age with others at £890 and £850.
Overall average achieved for steers was a pleasing £935.46.
Heifers
There were 200 heifers on offer with a top price of £1310 for a 26 month old Limousin from TJ & H Oakes of Marston Bank with other Limousins at 20 months of age up to £1250 for a bunch of 3 from Joel Pudsey of Quarnford and another pair from the same owner at 20 months of age at £1150.
Angus heifers from Messrs Carbutt of Siddington at 26 months of age sold up to £1275 with another 21 month old from S J Kirkham of Weaver at £1095. Hereford heifers from Wetwood Farm Limited of Meerbrook sold up to £1225 at 24 months of age with a bunch of 4, 24 month old heifers from Messrs Carbutt at £1115.
British Blue heifers from Wetwood Farms Limited of Meerbrook sold up to £1190 with 3, 21 month old British Blue heifers from Messrs Swindells of Bosley at £1160. Simmental heifers at 24 months of age from KW Dakin & Sons at £1150 and a pair of 21 month old Simmental heifers from Robert Day of Cheddleton at £1140.
Younger cattle sold up to £895 for a bunch of 3, 12 month old Simmental heifers from Jim Bennison of Ipstones with a 10 month old Charolais heifer from Brook Bank Farm Limited at £880.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £844.55.
