Store Cattle Sale Report 13th May 2023

An entry of 482 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer, another good entry with trade very similar to a fortnight ago seeing a keen trade for the small entry of cows and calves.

Breeding Section
A Pedigree Shorthorn cow with a purebred Shorthorn bull calf at foot from Emma Trueman of Quarnford selling for £1400 with a Charolais cow with a Hereford bull calf at foot from Messrs Pickford of Stone selling for £1250 with a Hereford cow with a young Hereford heifer calf at foot from Tom Bailey of Stanley selling particularly well for £1210.

There were 2 stock bulls on offer with a 31 month old Pedigree Hereford stock bull from John Bailey of Stanley being bid for keenly and selling for £1650 with a British Blue bull from R & T Clowes & Son of Dilhorne again bid for keenly and achieving £1775.

Young Bulls
There were 29 young bulls on offer with some excellent prices achieved seeing a top price of £1445 for a pair of 26 months old Limousin from Graham Beeston of Fairoak with a 19 month old Hereford from the same farmer at £1390, 18 month old Hereford at £1160 and a bunch of 5, 17 month old Angus from Tom Campbell of Tean again selling well for £1120.

The overall average achieved for young bulls was £814.31.

Steers
There were 257 steers on offer with some high prices achieved again seeing a 19 month old Hereford topping at £1625 from Dave Edge of Lach Dennis with a pair of 26 month old Angus from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel at £1665 and a single 20 month old Angus steer from Messrs Myatt of Gratton at £1640.

A 29 month old Hereford from Adrian Swinnerton sold for £1565 with British Blue steers up to £1535 from A P Wain of Draycott, £1480 for a 21 month old British Blue from Mark Gardener of Draycott and £1465 for a 22 month old British Blue steer from Giles Clark & Family of Bradnop.

A pair of 19 month old Simmentals from Mark Gardiner of Draycott sold for £1430 with a 33 month old Simmental from Anna Dowley of Lask Edge at £1360. A pair of 11 month old Limousin from Geoff Nutter of Grindon selling particularly well at £1290 with another pair of 12 month old Limousins from the same farmer at £1210. A bunch of 5, 13 month old Charolais from C & E J Whilock of Werrington being bid for keenly and achieving £1200.

Holstein steers from WD & HM Seabridge of Barlaston achieved £1225 with Longhorn steers up to £1120 for a 26 month old from N & Y Smith of Sutton on the Hill.

Overall average achieved for steers was £999.88

Heifers
There were 185 heifers on offer seeing a top price of £1660 for a 28 month old Montbeliarde from John Harvey and Family of Waterfall with a pair of 25 month old British Blues from Philip Williams of Tean at £1500, another pair of 21 month old British Blues from Giles Clark & Family of Bradnop at £1465 and a single 23 month old Limousin heifer from James Gilman & Family of Bosley at £1460. Another pair of 15 month old Limousin from Messrs Wright of Hartington achieved £1320 with a pair of 25 month old Simmentals from Philip Williams of Tean up to £1455 with Herefords up to £1400 for a pair 21 month old from Dave Edge of Lach Dennis.

A very good shaped 10 month old Limousin heifer from Philip Watson of Marple sold for £1200 with £1300 being paid for a 15 month old Limousin from Messrs Wright of Hartington. Angus heifers from Royston and Tracey Pepper of Apedale sold up to £1120 for a pair of 23 months of age with an overall average achieved being £877.35.
