There were 389 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer with plenty of trade in all sections. There was a shortage of cows with calves at foot but plenty of quality store cattle.
Breeding Section
Top price for cows and calves was £1180 paid for a Holstein cow with an Angus bull calf at foot from LAJ Turner & Son of Rownall. A Hereford heifer due to the Limousin bull from Mr Percival of Youlgreave was well sold at £1300. An entry of 4 in calf Angus heifers from Grassland Farming of Macclesfield received good competition selling up to £1060, £970 and £960.
Young Bulls
There was an entry of 19 which topped at £890 for an 18 month old Limousin bull from Messrs Goldstraw of Wetley Rocks with a 12 month old Simmental bull from Messrs Bower of Hyde at £830 and a pair of Hereford bulls from Gardiner Farming of Betchton of £780.
Average for young bulls was £485.26 including a number of smaller sorts.
Steers
There were 178 steers on offer with not as many strong cattle as some sales trade topped at £1350 for a 21 month old Limousin from Steve Machin of Stanley at 21 months of age with another one from William Machin of Stanley at £1335 of similar age and an 18 month old Limousin from Mark Rowlinson of Ramshorn at £1290.
Another 19 month old Limousin from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth achieved £1255 and a pair of 20 month olds from Steve Machin at £1230.
A pair of Angus 20 month old steers from M & G Clowes of Kingsley were bid for keenly and sold for £1320 with another 24 month old Angus from Steve Machin at £1190 and a bunch of 5, 18 month old Angus selling particularly well from A G Mellor of Sutton at £1145.
A bunch of 4, British Blue steers from Steve Machin at 22 months of age received good competition up to £1285 with a single from Mrs Nicholls of Belper at 24 months of age at £1255 and another single from Jonathon Greatbatch of Wetley Rocks at 22 months of age at £1175.
A Fleckvieh steer from Messrs Nichols of Belper at 19 months of age achieved £1080 with a Longhorn steer from Gardiner Farming of Betchton at 28 months of age at £1040. A bunch of 3, 19 month old Simmentals from J B Rowlinson & Sons of Gawsworth at £1090. Luing x 19 month old steer from Messrs Nicholls at £980 and 3, 14 month old Shorthorn steers from J & R Potts of Prestbury selling well for £960.
Friesian steers from Peter Ward at 20 months of age sold particularly up to £930 with younger sorts selling up to £920 for a 10 month old Limousin from Gardiner Farming of Betchton, £910 for a 10 month old Simmental from Messrs Bower of Hyde and £905 for a pair of 10 month old British Blues from J & R Potts of Prestbury.
Overall average achieved for steers was £883.76
Heifers
There were 175 heifers on offer with a top price being £1345 for a single 24 month old Limousin from Steve Machin of Stanley with another single 20 month old Limousin from Mark Rowlinson at £1220 and a pair of 21 month old Limousins from Steve Machin at £1215. A Charolais from Messrs Nicholls of Belper at 19 months of age sold for £1235 with British Blue heifers from Robert Flower at 13 months of age up to £1210.
A bunch of 4, 24 month old Angus heifers from Steve Machin sold for £1095 with a pair of 34 month old Herefords from Alistair Bailey of North Rode at £1090 and 4 Red Hereford heifers at 21 months of age from Ray Salt of Waterhouses at £1000.
A Welsh Black heifer at 25 months of age from Messrs Yates of Ashbourne sold for £985 with younger cattle up to £940 for a pair of 11 month old Limousins from K L Potts of Mottram St Andrew and £920 for a pair of 11 month old Limousins from C R Millward of Grindon with Shorthorn heifers up to £845 from J & R Potts of Prestbury.
An entry of young Limousin steers and heifers approximately 6-7 months old from Frith Bros of Ilam sold up to £820 for Limousin heifers.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £814.32.
