There was an excellent entry of 743 store and breeding cattle on offer which continued to meet a very strong trade with top prices as follows.
Breeding Section
A Hereford cow with an 8 month old Limousin steer calf which were sold separately achieved £1130 for the cow and £890 for the calf to gross £2020 from Mr Ratcliffe from Rodsley.
Another Belted Galloway cow with a Limousin steer calf at foot again sold separately in the ring grossed £1560 from the same vendor with a British Blue cow with a British Blue young bull calf at foot from W Waters of Upper Hulme exchanging hands for £1150 and the Executors of H W Wardle of Congleton achieving up to £1240 for a Limousin cow with a Simmental bull calf at foot.
Raymond Salt of Waterhouses achieved up to £1240 for a Hereford heifer with an Aberdeen Angus heifer calf at foot with other outfits at £1180 and £1130.
Longhorn Heifers believed in calf from Messrs Smith of Gillow Heath achieved up to £960 and £950 with a Hereford breeding heifer from R & SE Poole of Winkhill at £1030.
Young Bulls
Young bulls achieved up to £1000 for a 23 month old Simmental from Messrs Jones of Northwich with an 18 month old Simmental bull from the same vendor at £930 and a bunch of 4, 9 month old Charollais from Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones at £875. A 12 month old Simmental from N & K Goddard of Glossop sold for £890 with 5 month old British Blues from M & D Barber of Blore at £750 and 12 month old British Blues from W E Turnock & Sons at £740.
Overall average achieved for young bulls was £702.17.
Steers
There were 394 steers on offer with some excellent prices seeing a top price of £1365 for a pair of 22 month old Limousin steers from F Potter & Sons of Yeaveley with another bunch of 3, 22 month old Limousins from K E Grocott of Leigh at £1345 and a single 17 month old from Mark Rowlinson of Ramshorn at £1320. £1300 was paid for an 18 month old Limousin from Mr Lomas of North Rode with another 17 month old Limousin from Mark Rowlinson at £1275 and another pair of 14 month old Limousins from the same vendor at £1255.
Other breeds sold up to £1310 for a 24 month old Angus from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel with a bunch of 5, 20 month old Angus from H & R Nash of Uttoxeter at £1230.
British Blue steers from Ian Hollis of Burton on Trent at 21 months of age sold up to £1265 with a bunch of 3, 23 month old British Blues from the same vendor at £1190. A single 23 month old Simmental from C N Stevens & Sons of Bradnop was well sold at £1190 with a pair from R & J Shore of Biddulph at 22 months of age selling for £1150. Other British Blues from J & D Norbury sold up to £1145 with a bunch of 4, 24 month old Herefords from Anders Agriculture of Roston at £1140 with 3, 25 month old Herefords from S M Kirkman of Leigh at £1135 and Friesians up to £1120 for a 24 month old beast from R P Bolton of Lichfield.
Another bunch of 19 month old Friesians from the same vendor sold for £1095 with Long Horn steers up to £1080 for a 23 month old beast from Messrs Smith of Biddulph.
Younger cattle achieved up to £1060 for a bunch of 6 British Blue steers from Robert Flower & Family of Alstonefield at 10 months of age with a single 11 month old Limousin from AJ & LE Bailey of Grindon at £1000.
Overall average achieved for steers was an excellent £874.62.
Heifers
There were 282 heifers on offer with again some excellent top prices seeing a 23 month old Limousin from F Potter & Sons of Yeaveley at £1380 and another pair of 22 month old Limousin from the same vendor at £1350 and a single from K E Grocott of Leigh at £1250 at 22 months old with a bunch of 3 from Mrs Beryl Kirkham at 22 months of age at £1245.
A pair of 21 month old Simmentals from Messrs Stevens of Bradnop sold at £1260 at 21 months of age with another 23 month old Simmental at £1220 from the same vendor with Angus heifers up to £1205 at 19 months of age from Glyn Redfern and a bunch of 3, 21 month old Charolais at £1140.
Blonde heifers from Messrs Stevens of Bradnop sold up to £1120 at 20 months of age with Herefords up to £1035 for 3, 24 month old beasts from Anders Agriculture of Roston.
Younger cattle sold up to £960 for a good shaped Limousin heifer from Philip Watson of Stockport, with 3, 12 month old Limousins from AJ & LE Bailey of Grindon at £995.
Overall average achieved for Heifers was £865.28.
