A much better entry of Store and Breeding cattle with a good firm trade throughout and a good company of buyers in attendance.
Breeding Section
There was a small entry of breeding cattle which sold up to £895 for feeding cows from Messrs Wain of Upper Hulme with a Dexter cow and calf from Keith Parker up to £440 with another outfit at £420. A Simmental pedigree breeding bull at 26 months of age was particularly well sold at £3100.
Steers
There were 243 steers on offer with the top price being £1470 for a pair of 22 month old Limousin steers from Joe Austin of Parwich with other Limousin steers up to £1190 for a 20 month old from Geoff Turner of Oakover.
Welsh Black steers from K W Dakin & Son sold up to £1440 with another from the same vendor at 21 months of age at £1265. Simmental steers topped at £1390 for a 21 month old beast from the same vendor with J M Robinson of Buxton Brow Farm selling Simmental steers at 22 months of age up to £1360 with an 18 month old Simmental from the same vendor at £1330.
A bunch of 4, Black and White steers from D & D Gould of Waterhouses sold particularly well at £1280 with a bunch of 5, Angus Steers at 22 months of age from Joseph Torr Ltd of Macclesfield at £1245 with others from the same vendor at 22 months of age at £1200 and a pair of 18 month old Angus steers from P J Buxton at £1200 also.
Hereford steers from D & D Gould of Waterhouses at 23 months of age sold up to £1135 with John Brookes of Uttoxeter realising £1130 for a bunch of 3, 17 month old Herefords. A single 13 month old Shorthorn steer was particularly well sold at £1110 from Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones with another Shorthorn steer making £1100 at 20 months of age from J & R Potts of Prestbury.
Charolais steers at 11 months of age sold up to £900 from Mick Reeves and Family with Salers at 11 months of age up to £940 from H W Brown of Potcote, Northampton.
A cross bred steer at 9 months of age from Millward and Turner of Grindon was well sold at £1110 with another from the same vendors at 9 months of age at £1090.
Overall average achieved for steers was £870.27.
Heifers
There were 244 heifers on offer, which topped at £1325 for a 31 month old British Blue heifer from John Deaville of Bucknall and a bunch of 5, 17 month old British Blue heifers from A Mitchell & Sons of Knutsford at £1240 and a pair of 24 month old British Blues from B Nicholls at £1145. Limousin heifers from Geoff Turner of Oakover at 18 months of age at £1270 with a 22 month old Limousin heifer from F Swindells of Bosley at £1250 and a bunch of 3, 21 month old from Joe Austin of Parwich at £1175.
Hereford heifers from George Norbury of Monks Heath at 18 months of age sold for £1215 with Simmental heifers from J M Robinson of Buxton Brow at £1180 and a 17 month old Simmental heifer from George Norbury at £1150.
Angus heifers topped at £1120 for a bunch of 4, 22 month old heifers.
Younger cattle sold up to £825 for a bunch of 3 Herefords at 11 months of age from H W Brown of Potcote, Northampton.
Overall average achieved for heifers was £796.48.
