A total entry of 387 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer, with decent quality breeding outfits again meeting a strong enquiry with top prices as follows.
Breeding Section
An Aberdeen Angus heifer from Messrs Barnett of Sandbach with a British Blue bull calf at foot sold particularly well at £1690. £1670 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer with a Hereford heifer calf at foot from Norton Green with a Charolais heifer with an Aberdeen Angus male calf at foot from the same vendor at £1500. A Hereford cow with a Hereford bull calf at foot from Messrs Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave sold for £1300 with a British Blue cow with a Hereford heifer calf at foot from the same vendor at £1220.
Breeding heifers sold up to £1060 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer at 25 months old from R Turner of Rownall with a pair of pedigree Aberdeen Angus heifers from Messrs Griffin of Alstonefield at 24 months of age at £950.
A Hereford stock bull at 17 months of age from Mr Lyon of Wood Lane exchanged hands for £1230.
Young Bulls
Top price of the day was £695 for a pair of 12 month old Charolais from Messrs Barber of Waterhouses with a number of smaller sorts reducing the average to £444.35
Steers
There were 181 steers on offer with again some excellent prices being achieved seeing a British Blue steer at 28 months of age from James Burke Limited of Timperley at £1705 with another British Blue 25 month old steer from Anfield House Farm, Uttoxeter at £1595 and a 23 month old British Blue steer from Messrs Nash of Marchington at £1425.
Aberdeen Angus steers from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel at 22 months of age again met good competition selling up to £1495 with another pair of 25 month old Angus steers from Anfield House Farm at £1445 and a single 23 month old Angus steer from Messrs Nash of Marchington at £1280.
Limousin steers at 14 months of age from Robert and Andy Williamson of Wetley Rocks sold up to £1470 with another good quality Limousin steer at 18 months of age from Sam Clowes of Rudyard at £1420 and 3, 19 months old Limousins from Colin Lymer at £1400.
Charolais steers from Sam Clowes of Rudyard Sold up to £1290 at 17 months of age with Hereford steers from Roy Sant of Endon at 22 months of age at £1270 and another from Mr Oates of Holmes Chapel at £1190 at 23 months of age.
Blonde steers at 21months of age from D & D Gould, Waterhouses sold up to £1190 with Dairy Shorthorn steers at 23 months from Mark Ratcliffe at £1150. Friesian steers from Messrs Gould, Waterhouses at 23 months sold up to £1090 with Beef Shorthorn steers at 12 months of age from GG Hall & Son, Croxden at £1090 and Montbeliarde steers at 16 months of age from Messrs Cotton of Tean at £1070.
Overall average achieved for steers was £855.20
Heifers
There were 160 heifers on offer with top price being £1460 for a pair of 26 month old Limousins from PJ Stephens of Mottram with a single 26 month old Limousin heifer from R & J Shore of Biddulph at £1410 and a pair of 13 month old Limousin from Robert and Andy Williamson of Wetley Rocks at £1260
A 24 month old Saler heifer from R & J Shore of Biddulph sold up to £1395 with British Blue heifers from H & R Nash of Marchington at 18 months of age at £1340 and Friesian heifer at 24 months of age from the same vendor at £1335. Hereford heifers from Mr Oates of Holmes Chapel at 26 months of age sold up to £1320 with Angus heifers from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel at 20 months of age making £1295.
Simmental heifers from Beechcliffe Farm Partners of Trentham at 24 months of age sold for £1180 with another Simmental from R & J Shore of Biddulph making the same price. New vendor John Sadler of Wolverhampton sold Simmental heifers at 26 months of age up to £1140.
Well shaped 15 month old British Blue heifers from David Machin & Family of Rudyard were well sold at £1120. A 39 month old Hereford heifer from Brian Wainwright of Meerbrook sold for £1105 with a bunch of 3, good shaped Limousin heifers from Paul Brook of Mayfield being well sold at £1090.
Overall average achieved was £825.72.
