Store Cattle Sale Report 25th October

A total of 455 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer on Saturday with plenty of buyers in attendance form a wide area.

Breeding Section
An Aberdeen Angus cow with a male calf sold to £2670 for J E Thraves of Chesterfield who also had a second Aberdeen Angus cow with a heifer calf selling to £2430.

Shorthorn cows with heifer calves topped at £1270 for K Hargreaves of Winkhill who had the same outfit twice more which sold to £1260 and £1130.

Young Bulls
A 15-month-old Limousin bull sold to £2060 for A P Wain of Forsbrook. A 9-month-old Shorthorn achieved £1200 for J & R Potts of Prestbury and a bunch of four Shorthorn at 6 months old sold to £1090 for S W Thornicroft of Macclesfield.

Steers
263 Steers were on offer with a pair of British Blue at 26 months old topping the steers at £2370 from JP & BJ Wayne of Matlock who also had other British Blue at 21 & 26 months old which achieved £2330 and £2170 respectively. GS, KM & PL Eyre of Tean also had British Blue at 22 months old achieve £2200.

Charolais steers at 24 months old achieved £2340 for HT & M Dale & Son of Brereton.

Limousin steers at 26 months old topped at £2290 for JP & BJ Wayne of Matlock with a bunch of four Limousin at 25 months of age selling to £2260 for Peter Richardson of Ipstones and a Limousin at 23 minths old sold to £2240 for Pilkington Farms of Hartington.

A pair of Aberdeen Angus steers at 19 months old achieved £2270 for P B Wain of Gawsworth with a bunch of five Aberdeen Angus steers at 18 months old achieving £2200 for O R Jones of Gnosall.

A 16-month-old Shorthorn steer sold to £2100 for B & KA Fallows of Cheadle with a 21-month-old Simmental achieving £2000 for FG, JM & TE Carnwell of Dilhorne.

A pair of Hereford steers at 19 months old sold to £1980 for PJ & PA Mitchell of Fradswell with another pair at 18 months old achieving £1960 for the same vendor.

Younger cattle sold well with a 14-month-old Simmental achieving £1940 for Pilkington Farms of Hartington, a 13-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £1830 for S B Mellor & Son of Winkhill who also had 13-month-old Limousin to £1780 and £1740.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1514.09 which is an increase of over £190/head on a fortnight ago.

Heifers
167 Heifers were on offer with Limousin heifers selling to £2240 at 26 months old for P J Lymer of Bottomhouse with a 29-month-old Limousin to £2010 for R & J Shore of Biddulph.

A bunch of three British Blue heifers sold to £2170 for GS, KM & PL Eyre of Tean with a single 22-month-old British Blue achieving £2100 for CC & CJ Lovatt of Rushton Spencer and a pair of 26-month-old British Blue achieved £2000 for J & I Knight of Horton.

A single Aberdeen Angus heifer at 32 monhts old sold to £1970 for R & J Shore of Biddulph with a bunch of five at 19 months old selling to £1900 for P B Wain of Gawsworth.

A 28-month-old Hereford heifer sold to £1860 for L A J Turner & Son of Rownall.

A pair of Simmental at 23 months of age sold to £1860 for FG, JM & TE Carnwell of Dilhorne and a single Simmental at 18 months old sold to £1830 for S Hicklin of Onecote.

A Shorthorn at 33 months old achieved £1840 for R & J Shore of Biddulph.

A pair of 18-month-old Charolais sold to £1720 for Pilkington Farms of Hartington.

Younger cattle sold to £1600 for a 14-month-old Limousin from A H & T Carr of Waterfall and a pair of 14-month-old Shorthorn heifers achieved £1560 for J B Beech of Sandbach.

The overall average for heifers was a pleasing £1294.49
