Store Cattle Sale Report 2nd July 2022

A decent entry of 428 store and breeding cattle for the time of the year with less breeding cattle about but those on offer were well sold and vendors were well pleased.

Breeding Section
An entry of 4 Aberdeen Angus x heifers with Simmental calves at foot from Julian Goodwin of Rushton Spencer sold up to £1500, £1480 and £1420 twice, with a Hereford cow with a strong British Blue steer calf at foot from Mr James Burke of Tarporley selling well at £1460 and an Angus heifer with a Limousin bull calf at foot from the Wright Family of Hartington exchanging hands at £1480.

An Aberdeen Angus heifer with a Longhorn heifer calf at foot from John Carr of Roston achieved £1600 with another Hereford heifer with a Hereford Heifer calf at foot from Home Farm, Rushton realised £1510.

An in calf Hereford cow from SJ Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave being PD’d to the Hereford bull was well sold at £1480.

A 14 month old Limousin bull from SA Allcock of Waterhouses exchanged hands at £2000.

Young Bulls
Young bulls topped at £775 from D J Litchfield Limited of Uttoxeter at 14 months of age with a 12 month old Simmental bull from David Naylor of Glossop achieving £685 with a number of younger sorts producing an average of £441.59.

Steers
There were 200 steers on offer with a top price being £1770 paid for a well grown pair of Limousin steers from D J Boulton & Sons of Stafford at 24 and 26 months with another pair of Limousin steers from the same vendors of similar age at £1755 and another pair again from the same vendor at £1695.

Other Limousin steers sold up to £1300 for a 15 month old steer from D J Litchfield Limited of Uttoxeter with other Limousins up to £1275 at 25 months of age and £1255 at 15 months of age.

A pair of Aberdeen Angus steers from D & J Haslam of Marston Montgomery at 22 months of age sold for £1470 with a single 22 month old Angus from Luke Mellor & Sons of Blithbury at £1355 and another 20 month old Angus steer from the same vendor at £1280. A bunch of 6, British Blue steers from the same vendor at 23 months of age sold for £1300 with another 27 month old steer again from the Mellor family at £1285.

Hereford steers from T E H Bold & Sons of Cotton were well sold up to £1275 at 25 months of age with another Hereford from the same vendor at 16 months of age selling for £1160 and Simmental steers up to £1200 for a bunch of 3, 18 month old from W S Bartram of Stafford.

A bunch of 6, good shaped Charolais steers from C & EJ Whilock of Werrington at 14 months of age exchange hands for £1060 with Holstein steers from the Mellor Family of Blithbury up to £965 at 23 months of age and a Dairy Shorthorn steer at 33 months of age from W & N Sherratt & Son of Hartington at £930.

Younger cattle sold up to £1135 for a 13 month old Limousin steer from M Wright of Hartington with 10 month old Hereford steers from Messrs Bower of Hollinsworth at £860 and a bunch of 5, 8 month old British Blue steers from K Oliver & Sons of Congleton selling well at £750.

Overall average for steers was £863.10.

Heifers
There were 176 heifers on offer with a top price being £1480 for a pair of 25 month old Angus heifers from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel with a pair of 24 month old Angus heifers from the Mellor Family of Blithbury at £1295 and another bunch of 4, 23 month old Angus heifers from D & J Haslam at £1200.

Limousin heifers from DJ Boulton & Sons of Stafford at 25 months of age sold up to £1385 with another similar aged at £1330 and a bunch of 5, 22 month old British Blue heifers from the Mellor family of Blithbury at £1285.

A single 20 month old British Blue heifer from C W Pearce & Partners of Draycott sold for £1195.

A bunch of 4, 15 month old Limousin heifers from David Machin of Rudyard exchanged hands for £1045 with an 18 month old Welsh Black heifer from C W Pearce & Partners realising £945. A single 13 month old British Blue heifer from E C Hine & sons of Bradnop at £905 and Angus heifers at 12 months of age up to £865 from Brode Hall Farm Partnerships of Macclesfield.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £825.80.
