Store Cattle Sale Report 31st January

There were 461 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer with 100% clearance, seeing competitive bidding throughout to reward some strong averages overall.

Breeding Section

A smaller entry of Breeding Cattle on offer this week, seeing a Simmental suckler cow to £1580 for CD, JI & NM Gabbott of Macclesfield and a Hereford Suckler cow to £1480 from K & M Ede & Son of Checkley.

British Blue breeding heifers sold to £1210 for M Halliday of Seighford, three Hereford breeding heifers achieved £1080 for M E Cawser of Sudbury.

Young Bulls
A 17-month-old Limousin bull sold to £1780 for RJ & KA Salt of Rudyard, a 7-month-old British Blue bull sold to £1055 for CD, JI & NM Gabbott of Macclesfield and an 8-month-old Limousin bull sold to £1050 for S & S Harper of Onecote.

Steers
217 Steers were on offer with a pair of 20-month-old Charolais topping at £2290 for R Worthington of Edale with a 21-month-old Charolais achieving £2180 from the same vendor.

23-month-old Shorthorn steers achieved £2210 from an Ipstones vendor who had others of a similar age to £1950 x3, and a 21-month-old Shorthorn achieved £2030 for J E Swindells of Leek.

A bunch of four Aberdeen Angus steers sold to £2190 for R & H Bates & Sons of Macclesfield with two singles at 18 and 20 months old both achieving £2180 for BP & JR Needham of Heaton. Two single Aberdeen Angus steers at 21 months old achieved £2120 and £2100 for an Ipstones vendor. A bunch of three Aberdeen Angus at 20 months old sold to £2000 for SL Seabridge of Stafford.

A pair of British Blue steers at 24 months old sold to £2140 for IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington with a single 26-month-old British Blue achieving £2140 for R & H Bates & Sons of Macclesfield and a 24-month-old British Blue sold to £2090 for IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington. A 22-month-old British Blue achieved £2020 for J E Swindells of Leek, and a 16-month-old British Blue achieved £2000 for P J Bayley of Grindon.

A 17-month-old Simmental steers sold to £2070 for J M Robinson of Swythamley and a pair of Simmental at 19 months old achieved £2050 for S L Seabridge of Stafford.

A 17-month-old Limousin sold to £1970 for JM & ADJ Hayes of Alstonefield with another Limousin at 15 months old achieving £1840 for J M Robinson of Swythamley.

Hereford steers at 20 months old sold to £1845 for A P Hammond of Hilderstone.

Younger cattle sold well with a 12-month-old Simmental achieving £2030 for J M Robinson of Swythamley, 12-month-old Limousin sold to £1715 for JM & ADJ Hayes of Alstonefield, a pair of British Blue at 9 months old sold to £1600 for JW & R Massey, a trio of 8 month old Charolais sold to £1550 for C W Kidd of Quarnford and a bunch of seven Limousin at 9 months old achieved £1540 for S Frith Ltd of Thorpe.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1549.56, an increase of over £100 per head on a fortnight ago.

Heifers
Heifers topped the market this week with a 20-month-old Charolais achieving £2310 for R Worthington of Edale.

A Simmental at 33 months old sold to £2300 for J M Robinson of Swythamley with a 23-month-old Simmental achieving £2070 for an Ipstones vendor.

A pair of Montbeliarde heifers at 21 and 25 months old sold to £2270 for Newtons Dairy LLP of Gawsworth.

A bunch of four Aberdeen Angus heifers at 24 months old sold to £2090 for R & H Bates & Sons of Macclesfield and a 19-month-old Aberdeen Angus achieved £2090 for an Ipstones vendor.

British Blue heifers at 23 months old sold to £2070 and £1980 for IE, M & A Wilson of Hollington and a pair of British Blue heifers at 24 months old sold to £2000 for R & H Bates & Sons of Macclesfield.

A 25-month-old Holstein heifer achieved £1960 for Newtons Dairy LLP of Gawsworth.

A pair of 20-month-old Limousin heifers achieved £1920 for J E Swindells of Leek and a 20-month-old Hereford sold to £1870 for BP & JR Needham of Heaton.

Younger cattle sold to £1780 for a 14-month-old Charolais from N M Darlington of Nantwich and a 14-month-old Simmental achieved £1720 for J M Robinson of Swythamley.

The overall average for heifers was a remarkable £1437.28, an increase of £136 per head on a fortnight ago.
