Store Cattle Sale Report 4th June 2022

A decent entry of 410 store and breeding cattle for the time of the year with trade very similar to a fortnight ago with a good company of buyers in attendance.

Breeding Section;
There was a shortage of breeding cattle with pedigree Longhorn cows from R W Potter & Company from Yeaveley with calves at foot selling up to £1580, £1400 and £1260 (twice). There was two pedigree Hereford maiden heifers at 31 and 36 months of age both achieved £1160 from Mark Wheeldon of Gnosall. A 38 month old Limousin feeding cow from the Wain Family of Upper Hulme selling well at £1160.

A pedigree Charolais bull from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks at 23 months of age was bid for keenly and sold for £2700.

Young Bulls;
Young bulls sold up to £740 for a bunch of 3, 9 month old from Geoff Barlow of Froghall with a 10 month old Limousin from MJD Farms of Alstonefield at £680 and a number of smaller sorts reducing the average to £459 per head.

Steers;
There were 195 steers on offer with again some strong cattle selling up to £1475 for a 24 month old Simmental from R & J Shaw of Biddulph with another Simmental from Malcolm Ollerenshaw of Hope Valley at 19 months of age selling for £1445. Malcolm Ollerenshaw also sold a second Simmental at 27 months of age for £1375.

Angus steers topped at £1440 for a bunch of 4, 25 month old steers from D H Jones & Sons of Holmes Chapel with a single 17 month old Angus steer from Malcolm Ollerenshaw at £1380 and a bunch of 3, 19 month old at £1260 from the same vendor.

A 24 month old Charolais steer from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks sold for £1345 with a Hereford from David Naylor at 13 months of age selling for £1235 and British Blue steers up to £1280 for a pair of 24 month old from Jason Jervis of Cheadle and £1190 for a 23 month old British Blue from Malcolm Ollerenshaw.

Limousin steers from June Baskerfield of Kings Bromley sold up to £1065 for a 21 month old beast with Gavin Peach of Warslow realising £1065 for a bunch of 4, 23 month old cattle.

Younger steers sold up to £985 for a bunch of 3, 12 month old Limousin from Messrs Massey of Gawsworth with a 14 month old Hereford from John Fernyhough of Longsdon at £965 and a pair of 12 month old Limousin from Geoff Turner of Oakover at £890.

Overall average achieved was £833 per head.

Heifers;
There were 159 heifers with a top price being £1345 for a 24 month old Angus from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel with a pair of 25 month old British Blue heifers from Jason Jervis of Cheadle at £1280 and another 22 month old British Blue heifer from David Johnson of Halmerend at £1220.

4 Longhorn heifers from Reg Potter & Company of Yeaveley were well sold at £1275 with another 25 month old Longhorn heifer from the same vendor at £1200.

A British Blue heifer from David Naylor of Glossop at 28 months of age achieved £1145 with a Hereford heifer from Glyn Redfern of Onecote at 21 months of age at £1085.

Younger cattle sold up to £840 for a 13 month old Limousin from Messrs Massey of Gawsworth with British Blue heifers at the same age up to £840 from K A Prins of Draycott Cross and a bunch of 3, 12 month old Limousin heifers from Cliff Whalley of Quarnford at £825.

7 month old Limousin heifers from Geoff Barlow of Froghall were well sold at £795.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £751.
