A total entry of 550 store and breeding cattle were on offer with a company of buyers around the ring and quality cattle selling to a strong demand. Some of the second quality and smaller cattle were more difficult to place but overall some excellent prices were achieved.
Breeding Section
In the breeding section, a Hereford cow with a Hereford male calf at foot from SJ Hawkins of Middleton by Youlgreave exchanged hands for £1220, with a breeding heifer from S B Mellor & Sons of Winkhill being well sold at £1190 and a consignment of four heifers from Messrs Slack of Macclesfield, all being Simmental having been PD’d 4-5mtsh in calf to the Angus met a good enquiry up to £1240, £1190 and £1100.
Young Bulls
There were 27 young bulls on offer with the top price being £945 paid for an Angus bull at 24 months from T Campbell of Cheadle with Limousin bulls from F Potter & Sons of Yeaveley up to £780 at 12 months of age and a bunch of four 6 month old Simmental bulls from John Fernyhough of Swythamley meeting good competition and selling for £770. A Simmental 5 month old bull from Barry Chadwick of Hilton exchanged hands for £740 .
Overall average achieved for young bulls was £631.40.
Steers
There were 265 steers on offer with the top price being £1490 for a 27 months old Angus steer from Peter Naden of Cheddleton, with a pair of 24 month old Angus Steers from Neville Ward of Dilhorne at £1350 and a bunch of four 26 month old Angus steers from Peter Naden at £1260.
British Blue steers from Peter Naden at 26 month old up to £1435, with a bunch of three 22 months old British Blue steers from David Curtis and family of Basford at £1365 and three more from the same vendor at 22 months of age at £1265.
Simmental steers from Roy Shore of Biddulph at 27 months of age sold up to £1395 with another 25 month old Simmental steer from the same vendor at £1205
South Devon steers from R Chaddock of Gillow Heath at 19 months of age sold at £1380 with Charolais steers from Peter Naden at £1355. Another South Devon steer from R Chaddock at 20 months of age sold for £1245 and a pair of 22 month old Longhorn steers from M & Y Smith of Sutton on the Hill met good competition at £1195.
Hereford steers from Angers Agri of Roston achieved £1165.
Montbeliarde steers from John Evanson of Yarnfield sold for £1035 with Shorthorns at 9 months of age from Graham Jones of Langley at £1010 and a 7 month old British Blue steer from J A Nicholls of Wetley Rocks at £1010 and Limousin steers from S B Mellor & sons of Winkhill at 12 months of age selling well to £1145.
Overall average achieved was £835.65.
Heifers
There were 200 heifers on offer with a top price of £1375 for Simmental heifers from Roy Shore of Biddulph with another from the same vendor at 24 months of age selling for £1360 and a 29 month old Simmental heifer from Anders Agriculture at £1110.
Angus heifers from Peter Naden of Cheddleton topped at £1315 for a 26 month old pair with a bunch of three Angus heifers at 27 months of age from Peter Naden at £1130.
Limousin heifers from David Curtis and family sold up to £1235 at 22 months of age with British Blue heifers from the same home at 23 months of age up to £1185.
Hereford heifers from Gerald Grindey of Onecote at 19 months of age sold up to £1075 with a 20 month old Charolais heifer from Ross Worthington of Edale at £1080 and Longhorn heifers from M & Y Smith of Sutton on the Hill at 27 months of age toping at £1040, and £1035 for a Hereford at 14 months of age from K E Grocott, Leigh.
Younger cattle sold up to £845 for a 11 month old Limousin heifer from S B Mellor & Sons at Winkhill with a 14 month old Limousin heifer from AJ & LE Bailey, Grindon at £805 and a 7 month old Simmental heifer from Barry Chadwick of Hilton achieved £695.
Overall achieved for heifers of £715.
