278 Store and Breeding Cattle were on offer seeing a good firm trade in all sections, with plenty of buyers looking for both small long-term cattle and those close to finishing.
Breeding Section
There was a small entry of breeding cattle with a pair of Shorthorn bulling Heifers, form Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones, at 24 months of age, selling for £980 and Dexter bulling Heifers, from Keith Parker, at 17 months of age, at
£330.
Young Bulls
Likewise, there was a small entry of Young Bulls, with the top price being £990 paid for a Hereford from John Brookes of Uttoxeter, at 16 months of age, with a 7-month-old Limousin Bull, from Messrs Barber of Waterhouses, up to £950 (twice) and £930 at 12 months of age.
The average for Young Bulls, including a number of smaller sorts, was £711.43.
Steers
There were 166 Steers on offer with an excellent shaped, strong Limousin Steer, at 24 months of age, from Mrs Betty Nicholls of Belper, topping the market at £1650 with Messrs Britland selling a bunch of five good quality British Blue Steers, around 20 months of age, for £1570, a bunch of six for £1410 and a bunch of four also at £1410.
A bunch of four Shorthorn Steers from, Messrs Palfreyman of Monyash, sold up to £1300, at 25 months of age, with Hereford Steers from, Anthony Hammond of Hilderstone, at 25 months of age, up to £1250 and a bunch of six 18-month-old Herefords, from Darren Gould of Waterhouses, at £1170.
Holstein Steers, from DM James of Mowcop, at 23 months of age, were well sold up to £1095 with another from the same vendor, at 23 months of age, at £960.
Montbeliarde Steers, from Amy Seabridge of Stone, at 20 months of age, sold for £960.
Aberdeen Angus Steers topped at £1140, for a bunch of five, from Brian Needham of Rushton Spencer, at 16 months of age, with Simmental Steers, from Peter Ward of Kirk Ireton, at 19 months of age, selling up to £910.
Good shaped younger cattle were particularly well sold, with a 9-month-old Limousin Steer, from J J Watson of Marple, achieving £1060 and an 8 month old Limousin, from the same vendor, at £1060 with another 9 month old at £1000.
A 9-month-old Limousin Steer, from J A Nicholls of Wetley Rocks, achieved £900 and a 7 month old Limousin Steer, from L Nicholls of Wetley Rocks, sold up to £890.
Overall average for Steers was £936.75.
Heifers
There were 94 Heifers on offer, with the top price being £1300, from Mrs Betty Nicholls of Belper, for a bunch of three 21 month old Charolais’ with Longhorn Heifers, from Reg Potter and Family of Yeaveley, at 19 months of age, selling up to £1260 with another pair, at 21 months of age, at £1240 and a second
pair at £1200.
Limousin Heifers, from F Potter & Son of Yeaveley, at 21 months of age, topped at £1200 with a bunch of five 26 month old Limousin Heifers, from the same vendor, at £1100.
Aberdeen Angus Heifers, from Mrs Betty Nicholls of Belper, at 20 months of age, sold up to £1075 with British Blue Heifers, from John Brookes of Uttoxeter, at 22 months of age, at £1190 and another bunch of three 21 month old Heifers, from Darren Gould of Waterhouses, at £1060.
Simmental Heifers, from J B Rowlinson & Son of Gawsworth, at 18 months of age, achieved £1040 with Hereford Heifers, from John Brookes, at 23 months of age, up to £1000.
The younger cattle topped at £1110, for a 9-month-old, excellent shaped Limousin from J J Watson of Marple with another 9 month old Limousin Heifer, from the same vendor, at £925, a pair of 12 month old Blonde Heifers, from E G Taylor & Partners of Rugeleysold at £840.
The average for Heifers was £810.80
