There was 9,380 store lambs and breeding sheep on offer with a good firm trade for all categories.
Store Lambs
There was 7,390 store lambs which exchanged hands seeing a top price of £90 for Texel ewe lambs from G Nutter of Grindon with other Texel ewe lambs from J Kirkham of Hartington at £87 and £85 for ewe lambs from G Millington of Wincle. The same price was paid for another pair of Texel ewe lambs from S Gould of Warslow with £81.50 being paid for a pen of Texel ewe lambs from EJ Baskerville of Lichfield.
Texel mixed lambs from K & L Cooper of Winkhill sold up to £88 with others at £86.50 from Eric Coates of Fenny Bentley and £83.80 paid for 106 lambs from W & N Sherratt of Hartington.
A pen of Texel mixed lambs from AF Corbishley & Sons of Thorncliffe, realised £81.50 with others at £80.50 from E Salt of Dove Holes.
Suffolk ewe lambs from P Hooley of Wildboarclough topped at £82 with 14 Suffolk ewe lambs from J Peach of Leek at £81 and £80 for a pen of Suffolk ewe lambs from A Wilshaw of Meerbrook. Suffolk mixed lambs topped at £80.50 from M Grindey of Rushton and £79 from A Wilshaw of Meerbrook.
Beltex mixed lambs from N & AG Eardley of Macclesfield sold well for £80 a piece with other Beltex mixed lambs from T & JM White of Sheffield at £80 and Charollais mixed lambs from JL & NT Walker of Brightgate at £79.50.
Other Charollais lambs sold up to £77.50 from Messrs Brough with Oxford mixed lambs from J Barber of Quarnford at £77.50 and a pen from R Phillips and Family of Buxton at £76.
Hampshire mixed lambs from M Grindey of Rushton sold up to £75 with Ryland ram lambs from L Friston at £75. Cheviot mixed lambs from P Wood of Wardlow sold at £70.
There was a stronger trade this week for Mule Whether lambs with £68 being paid from A Hayes and also for a pen from G Tunnicliffe with £67.20 being paid for a pen from AL Turnock & Son of Wincle. D Naylor of Castleton sold a pen of Mule Whether lambs for £63.20.
Overall average for store lambs was a very pleasing £69.71.
Breeding Sheep
There were 773 breeding ewe lambs on offer with some excellent prices being achieved up to £162 paid for a pair of Blue Texel ewe lambs from Messrs Lockett of Heaton with Zwartble ewe lambs up to £118 from PJ Davenport of Calton and other Texels up to £110 from A Hayes of Alstonefield and also a pen from KN House of Somerford with £108 being paid for a pen of Texel ewe lambs from S Kirkham of Hartington, £106 from A Hayes and also for a pen from L Meakin of Elkstones.
There were several other pens around £100 with Suffolk ewe lambs selling up to £104 from G Wainwright and Family of Bamford with Mule ewe lambs up to £98 from M & D Barber of Blore and also for a pen from G Wainwright and Family of Bamford with £96 being paid for pens from J Martin of Ilkeston and also from EJ & DC Kidd of Quarnford.
Overall average achieved for ewe lambs was £85.07.
Shearlings
There was 693 Shearlings on offer with £205 being the top price of the day which was paid for a pen of three Cheviot shearlings from Tegsnose Livestock of Langley with a pair of Cheviot shearlings from the same vendor at £200.Texel sold up to £192 from E Morten & Sons of Barmoor Clough and £190 from R Robinson & Sons of Upper Hulme, £175 from E Morten & Sons and £172 from R Robinson & Sons of Upper Hulme. There were several other pens at £150 with Mule shearlings topping at £170 for a pen from S Frith of Thorpe with another pen from the same vendor at £168 and two pens from J & G Fryer of Horton at £166 and £160.
Lleyn shearlings from C Grindey of Adlington sold up to £150 with other Cheviots up to £142 from M Wood of Longnor.
Overall average achieved for shearlings was a very pleasing £141.08.
Ewes
There were 524 older breeding ewes on offer with a top price being £128 for a pen of 4 tooth Texels from J Kent of Newcastle with other 4 tooth Texels at £122 from the same vendor, with 4 tooth Charollais from the same vendor at £125, 4 tooth Kerry Hills from SK Davies of Sutton and Bluefaced Leicester’s up to £120.Overall average achieved for ewes was £73.20 which included a number of grazing sorts.
