Store Sheep Report 9th January

A total entry of 1,641 store lambs and breeding sheep were on offer with the majority being store lambs which met with a very keen demand in keeping with national trends.

 

Store Lambs

There was a good company of buyers in attendance with a top price of £132 a piece for a Texel lamb from C M Rowlinson of Ramshorn with 2 more pens of Texels from Andrew Bowler of Ashley Hay selling for £120 per head, and other pens of Texels at £110 from Blaze Farm Partners of Wildboarclough, £108.50 from A M Gray of Sheffield, £108 from Frank Morrison of Hope Valley and £106 from Messrs Sadler of Great Wryley.

There were several other pens of Texels selling for over £100 per head with Charollais selling up to £117.50 from Stephen Pye of Swythamley. Continental mixed lambs from Jane Bonsall of Atlow at £106, Lleyn from Mr Robinson of Hope Valley at £113.50, Texel x ram lambs from Frank Belfield of Meerbrook at £112.

A Suffolk lamb from Ross Worthington of Edale sold for £109 with another pen of 12 Sufolks from Messrs Russell of Cowdale at £104 and a single from Stephen Berrisford of Wildboarclough at £103.

There were other pens of Suffolks over £100 a piece with Zwartble lambs from Alan Belfield of Ipstones up to £99, and Kerry Hill mixed lambs from M Carter of Swythamley at £93.

The overall average achieved for lambs was £86.70.

 

Breeding Ewes and Lambs

There was only a small entry of breeding sheep with ewe lambs selling up to £77 for Swale ewe lambs from Andrew Chadwick of Abney with others at £76 and £71 from the same vendor.

Grazing ewes from Messrs Sykes of Rainow sold up to £64, with broken mouth Swale ewes at £37 from the same vendor.
