Store Cattle Sale Report 14th March

There were 486 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer this week with a good company of buyers around the ring and strong prices achieved.

Breeding Section
An Aberdeen Angus cow with a male calf sold to £2430 for TC, VF & IT Lomax of Saverley Green with a Swedish Red cow with a heifer calf achieving £2130, a Limousin cow and male calf to £2070 and a Hereford cow and heifer calf to £2000 all for the same vendor.

A Hereford suckler cow achieved £1830 for A Bould of Tean and a bunch of six Hereford breeding heifers sold to a high of £1680 to average £1340 for The Bona Fide Farmers of Audley

Young Bulls
A 16-month-old Limousin bull achieved £1590 for IF & RW Smith of Ilam, a bunch of four 14-month-old Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £1510 for J & JA Venables & Son of Lower Withington with another bunch of four at the same age selling to £1500 for the same vendor.

A pair of 16-month-old Holstein bulls sold to £1430 for J & JA Venables & Son with a 12-month-old Blonde achieving £1390 for C Armstrong of Bignall End.

Steers
216 Steers were on offer with a top price of £2330 for a 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus from R & H Bates & Sons of Marton with a bunch of three at the same age achieving £2240 and another bunch of three, also 22 months old, selling to £2080 for the same vendor. 16-, 22- and 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus sold to £2000 per head for A Turnock & Sons of Horton.

A single 22-month-old Limousin sold to £2260 for K R Day of Cheddleton and a pair of Limousin at 22 months old sold to £1980 for N R Spencer of Kirk Ireton.

A 16-month-old Simmental sold well to £2180 for DJ Gregory of Drointon, a bunch of three Simmental at 19 months old sold to £2070 for RA & KD Day of Cheddleton, a bunch of three at 24 months old sold to £2070 for SE Bartlam of Barlaston and a single at 29 months old sold to £2060 for MN Bailey of Biddulph Moor.

An 18-month-old British Blue steer sold to £1975 for MJ Jervis of Whiston with a bunch of three 16-month-old British Blue steers selling to £1875 for GT Thursfield of Light Oaks.

A pair of 22-month-old Hereford steers sold to £1960 for C Nash of Dayhills, a trio of 16-month-old Holstein sold to £1920 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton and a 15-month-old Shorthorn sold to £1770 for PT Salt & Sons of Whiston.

Younger cattle sold well with a pair of 11-month-old Aberdeen Angus achieving £1790 for MS & HM Roe of Uttoxeter, a trio of 13-month-old Limousin sold to £1755 for IF & RW Smith of Ilam and a bunch of six British Blue steers at 10 months old achieved £1750 for DR Flower & Son of Alstonefield.

The overall average for steers was a very pleasing £1497.48.

Heifers
A trio of Aberdeen Angus topped the 216 heifers that were on offer, at 22 months old, they sold to £2090 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton. A pair at 25 months old sold to £1960 for CJS Farms of Lask Edge with five more at 21-22 months old selling to £1950 x2, £1930 x2 and £1920 for R & H Bates & Sons of Marton.

A pair of Simmental at 22 months old sold to £2080 for RA & KD Day of Cheddleton who also had a pair at 21 months old selling to £1860 and CJS Farms of Lask Edge sold a pair at 21 months old to £1960.

A 23-month-old Limousin heifer sold to £2000 for CJS Farms of Lask Edge with another Limousin at 19 months old selling to £2000 also, from A Swindells of Elkstones.

A pair of Hereford heifers at 21 months old sold to £1750 for GK Challinor of Tean with a trio of Hereford at 28 months old achieving £1740 for D Beswick of Ipstones.

An 18-month-old INRA 95 sold to £1680 for E Titterton of of Milwich and a 23-month-old Welsh Black heifer achieved £1590 for JP Carr of Roston.

In the younger cattle, a bunch of four 14-month-old Limousin heifers sold to £1840 for A H & T Carr of Waterfall.

The overall average for heifers was £1343.13.
