Derbyshire Dazzlers Sale Report

Thank you to the Derbyshire Texel Club, the Central Beltex Club and the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society for choosing to host their sale with us at Leek Auctions on Friday. There was a tremendous turn out for all breeds and plenty of trade too!

Pedigree Texel’s

A good entry of 30 Texel’s including sheep from well renown flocks, it attracted a large crowd of onlookers and purchasers. Kindly judged by Andrew Barnes, he awarded the Overall Champion to a superb ram lamb ‘Okehall Just A Breeze’, shown by Michael Turner which went on to top the day at 1200gns. Reserve Champion was awarded to a lovely shearling ewe shown by Boden & Davies from their ‘Sportsmans’ flock, which sold for 440gns.

E Vaughan & Sons of Newcastle saw one of his ram lambs ‘Partridge Nest Jack The Lad’ sell for 1100gns with another ‘Partridge Nest Joker’ from the same home for 1100gns again. Lot 218, ‘Charben Juggernaut’ from Ben Vernon of Marston Montgomery sold for 750gns. Lot 221 from Frankie Kunica of Alfreton raised 750gns who sold another for 700gns, and E Vaughan & Sons continued their flying trade and sold further ram lambs for 850gns and 680gns.

Ewe lambs sold to 500gns for the ‘Greasley’ flock shown by David Hind of Newthorpe.

Shearling ewes topped the sale at 520gns for the ‘Sportsmans’ flock who also sold others at 440gns and 500gns.

Pedigree Dutch Spotted

Only the 2nd time for us at Leek hosting a show & sale on behalf of the Dutch Spotted Sheep Society and there was another excellent show, kindly judged by Andrew Mitchell, with 65 catalogued entries.

Overall Champion was awarded to ‘Back Tor Ilona’, a shearling ewe shown by Jack & Steph Simpson of the ‘Back Tor’ flock which went on the top the breed at a price of 900gns. They were also awarded Reserve Champion with ‘Back Tor Init’, a shearling ram which sold for 750gns. The Simpsons also sold a shearling ewe ‘Back Tor Ivanna’ for 700gns. The buoyant trade of the shearling ewes continued for the ‘Kilcroft’ flock of Alderley Edge seeing their ‘Kilcroft Isabella’ sell for 850gns and ‘Kilcroft Imelda’ sell for 820gns.

First prize in the Ewe Lamb Class & Reserve Female Champion, ‘Fachwen Jean Jeanie’ sold well for 600gns from A Breese, Tregynon who also sold another ewe lamb ‘Fachwen Jezebelle’ for 500gns and ‘Fachwen Josee’ for 500gns. Other ewe lambs sold to 650gns for ‘Smallwood Jilly’ from Emily Nicholls, Smallwood, 600gns for ‘Sutton Manor Jiggle Wiggle’ from Emma Webster and Jack Hall of Sutton on the Hill and 580gns and 550gns for others from the same home.

Shearlings rams sold Up to 750gns, for ‘Dovedale Impeccable’ from Lucy Miller, Ramshorn and 700gns from the same home for ‘Dovedale I’m a Gambler’. Jack & Steph Simpson sold another Shearling ram ‘Back Tor Ice Man Otzi’ for 450gns.

Rams Lambs sold up to 550gns for ‘Park Hills Jack Rabbit’ from M Tomlinson & Master R Tomlinson of Muggington.

Pedigree Beltex

A smaller entry compared to the other breeds, but no shortage of quality on offer and a flying trade. The Show was kindly judged by Steven Wells of Monyash.

Overall Champion was awarded to lot 112, ‘Boothlow Leading Lady’, a shearling ewe shown by Tom Belfield, Sheen which went on to sell for 1000gns making the top priced Beltex sold. Further shearling ewes from the same home ‘Boothlow Loopy’ sold for 960gns, ‘Boothlow Lily’ and ‘Boothlow Lexus’ for 850gns each. The Belfield family also took home Reserve Champion with a tremendous shearing ram ‘Boothlow Legion’ selling for 800gns and selling other rams – ‘Boothlow Lightening Bolt’ for 850gns, ‘Boothlow Lucifer’ for 800gns, ‘Boothlow Lightening McQueen’ for 700gns and ‘Boothlow Legend’ for 700gns.

A ram lamb shown by Jack Darlington of Chellaston called ‘JD’s L’Oreal’ sold for 400gns.
